HP Microserver+XPEnology

Has anyone managed to get the backup to another diskstation feature to work? I have followed this guide http://www.synology.com/en-global/support/tutorials/461

I can browse to the folder on the destination microserver, but the wizard on the source keeps throwing an error. "Connection failed. Please try again"

My username also appears in the Current Connections tab

Error message in the log: Network Backup failed to backup task [Backup] to [DiskStation2 (192.168.0.152)]. ([30] Connection to the destination server is timeout. Please check the following and try again:The destination server is connected to a stable network.Backup client and server is busy.)

You will probably need information which I'll be able to provide if you tell me what you need to know. I am currently running XPEnology with ESXI on a microserver. The transfer rates seem to start good but after a few seconds they go down to under 10MB/s and I'm not sure if that is normal or not.

Can anyone shed some light for me?

I had speed problems but after update 3 all is ok now, but I don't run it with ESXI so that could be the problem.

Decided to scrap the ESXI route as I was only ever going to run the 1x VM anyway. Managed to get it all up and running again and it's running smooth at this moment in time - Transfer speeds are also good. I've also been testing Plex which seems pretty cool and seems to run good as well.

Has anyone done anything interesting to their setups?

I've edited the MAC address to the real one so I was able to use WOL but it seems I am now getting notifications through one of the apps about other peoples servers? What's the recommended way to solve that.

Should I install the DSM updates that the software is notifying me or will it bork my microserver?

I've updated with no problems. My post here may help http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=25475385&postcount=97

Which app?

Hey,

I believe it's the "DS Finder" application

Are you 100% sure you have the real mac addy? I've just tried it on mine using wireless and only my addy shows

I do use a DDNS(no-ip) for contacting it outside my lan. Hold on there was some other person in this thread that it happened to
maybe look back a few pages?

Edit=just thought how did you edit the vender file? did you use the small app I posted and deleted the other 3 mac addys?

I left the other 3 MAC addresses in which is probably what's causing the issue. Do I then open up the vender file to remove those? As I think the small app you posted wouldn't let you delete the other 3 when I tried it.

I used the randomize option on 3 of them and put the right addy at the top. Don't forget to backup before you play :)

Are you contacting the nas by Lan or Wan?

I shall take another look into when I'm home from work. I'm contacting the nas by LAN.

Thanks for the help so far! :)

How did you get on?

For you guys\gals that haven't turned on WOL please try this. Make sure your Nas is off but the light on the nas is still orange
install the DS finder pick your nas from the list it may ask you if you want to turn it on
Say yes and see if it does. The reason I ask is I've found that even with WOL off in the options it's really on.

I'm trying to find out if it's just me or?

All sorted :) for you people who have the same problem a guy named Stanza has fixed it

Edit

/etc/synoinfo.conf
/etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf

Change these lines
eth0_wol_options="g"
eth1_wol_options="g"
wol_enabled_options=""

Running 4.3 Update 3 on N54L.

Just waiting on esata to sata cable to have an ssd cache.
4X2TB Sammy's + standard 250gb drive.
1x 36GB SSD cache.

Need to enable WOL so HDD hibernation will work which I will do on the weekend.

Nice one dude :)

Don't forget to test WOL before you setup it up just in case ;)

Does anyone know how much the HP N54L idles at (power watts?) and also when its using say 4 large hdds when its downloading/streaming ?

Would be nice to gauge the power wattage and is WOL fully working ?

Does anyone know how the bq/design/hw of the HP micro-servers stack up again the hw in these QNAP/Synology NAS appliances?

I'm talking about every little "bell & whistle", right down to somewhat gimmicky things like drive-locks & display.
I know the former is much cheaper, but that's not my main interest at this point...

Thank-you.

Post here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18216324

That's the main HP Nas thread.
