HP Reverb G2 uk release date?

Good as in not the "other countries are getting them before us" part, but altogether the shipping has started, and production is in full force.

Why Europe is last is beyond me.

Meaningless until it's coming my way. I'm glad my money has gone to helping produce the goods for those people that aren't me.

I think the point is the unit IS finished and production is in full swing meaning we will get ours withba bit of luck sooner rather than later.

I wish we didn't have a delay but it seems par for the course. DK2 had supply issues, CV1 had supply issues and then there isnthebmess that was the pimax headsets. Put it this way I reckon we will have our headsets before most people get their 3080s or 5900xs . But then I suppose it's easy for me to be relaxed about it as I have a quest2. Back in the day waiting for my DK2 and my CV1 I was chewing my knuckles.off. all I can say there is both times it was worth the wait. Hopefully I will say the same about this too. I wonder what will come 1st "September" reverb G2 or my "October" Sinden lightguns?

Pre-ordered mine today - its a lot of money to put down when you're not going to get the goods for a couple of months. At least valve only take money at purchase.

When did you pre-order again?

IDk if I should hope for a pre Christmas delivery for my 17/09 pre order

It's good to see so many people are getting theirs. based on Reddit, a lot of people in Australia and canada and the US are getting them this week.
19th october, I was late to the pre order party, so I expected a wait

Yeah it is a bit poor that they already charged months in advance, but that's SystemActive rather than HP - for example in the US Connection (the main US distributor) only charged when shipping. I actually kind of prefer it this way though because the money spent is now a distant memory and it's not like I've been missing out on much interest!

I think basically HP announced this too early... Had this been announced for pre-orders in September I think there'd be a lot less complaining about it only now starting to ship.

Agreed. And whilst I would have been happy to have received my pre-order by now as was originally projected, I know I will be among the first in the UK to receive my headset. Given the alternative we're seeing with recent GPU and CPU launches, where it's effectively every man for himself, fastest F5 finger first, pay over the odds to a scalper, or join the back of an invisible queue with no idea as to when the order will actually be available, I know which I prefer :)

Thanks for the tip on the stock :D.
_VWV_

The stock and grips that I ordered were for my Quest, but it seems that Tyriel and MRTV says the grips (ordered separately) fit the G2 - but I am sure Mamut will likely make a G2 version at some point. Here's specifically what I ordered:

Mamut Grips DX - Rift S / Quest

Mamut Apto 2.0 - Universal gun stock.

EDIT: Here's the YouTube vid on the stock, and 9 mins in, he talks about the G2 controllers with it.

If you get to try it, can you post a review please.

He had technical difficulties getting it to run. For some reason his wheel and mouse wouldn't work when he had the headset on. WMR weirdness, I guess. He will try to get it working over the next few days. It's unlikely I will get to try it in the near future. We live about 3 hours apart. The soonest opportunity would be the second week of December when he comes down for an Autocross event. I might talk him into bringing it with him and try it on my PC then.

Ok thanks for that.

According to Sebastian from MRTV the tracking is visible light based. So you need to avoid direct sunlight, bright studio lights greenscreens and dark rooms, then the tracking is good.

I'm glad now I don't play competitive shooters.

So 1 question I have seen asked.

Apparently the reason quest tracks better is because the cameras are angled slightly ... And this looks right looking at them on the corners of the headset.

That leaves rifts which also tracks well but those cameras are.not as obviously well positioned.

Apparently it is because they are fisheye lenses and they have a very wide tracking area.

This begs the question

In the early design stage why on earth didn't HP use raised fisheye lenses with extra.wide.tracking areas?.

I guess it's a combination of camera position and software. It does seem to make more sense to have them basically on the 4 corners of the headset, rather than front and side.

It's not just camera positioning, Oculus has used machine learning to optimise the tracking. It uses prediction to help track when the controllers are out of the tracking volume, so you almost never notice when tracking is lost. No-one has yet managed to match it.

And oculus is using infrared. G2 is visible light it seems.

And in the interview with HP they said they had to leave the better tracking, better audio out as a compromise so it can be a cheaper 600 pound headset, and not the same price as the Index.
oh well.

You have to avoid bright lights, monochrome walls, etc with every headset.

As for dark rooms. Tracking in every headset needs a light source of some kind, be it infrared or visible light.

For the Quest 2, you would need something to emit Infra red light to work in the dark. And are you sure the G2 cameras can't do the same?

When HP were talking about reducing costs, they were talking about the cost of going outside in or inside out tracking. Outside in is using external sensors like the Index does with the Lighthouses. Inside out tracking is cheaper because you just use cameras in the headset itself.

That how I interpreted it during the interview, that it's about inside out tracking. But I just read that ithr G2 is not using infrared light like the quest 2.

The information is from MRTV. I'm not certain it's correct,I just repeated what I read today when reading about the tracking.
HP is not exactly flooding us with new information.
