HP Reverb G2 uk release date?

I think it adds to confusion that it appears HP sells G2s directly in some markets and in others through authorised resellers (like systemactive and bestware). On top of that there are other hardware vendors eager to sell G2s.

It is my understanding that HP still insists all authorised retailers pre-orders are to be shipped by the end of December. Considering a couple of weeks lag, it means people should get their G2s in the first half of January 2021.

However, all the other retailers are out of luck and they will be served once pre-orders authorised resellers are shipped.

Now that is what HP appears to be saying. My take that in reality they are not going to make it. At this point it feels like they know they are not going to make it but still say what amounts to deliberate consumer misinformation with the aim to keep people on the hook and away from a much more available competition.

Well, other than MRTV - I've not seen a good review of the G2's tracking. 'Eric for President' just said that for him, it was unusable, and the G2 would "stay in the drawer". That's after HP sending him a replacement controller. I have to say, I am more nervous than excited about the G2 turning up. There's also little things like the cable clip breaking for at least three reviewers. Not a big thing in itself, but sounds like quality control isn't too hot either. Regardless of how I feel the tracking performs when I get it, the bad press it's already getting is going to hurt the G2's sales. I sincerely hope it's not as bad as people are suggesting.

Try this review. I think it's a well balanced opinion on G2. Tracking is going to be a bit inferior to oculus. It's more sensitive to the environment and it has smaller tracking volume (hands all the way up or down - tracking is lost).

But it's not like it's unplayable. And for me the slightly inferior tracking is easily outweigh by the comfort, the visuals (clarity, no compression artefacts), the audio. Plus with G2 it's only MS that spies on me. MS is definitely a lesser evil. They are far, far less likely to ban you with the subsequent loss of all your VR purchases.

Tyriel makes this point here, that if one beefs up Q2 to G2's level (comfort, audio), you roughly have a price parity, but the visuals aren't there and the FB controversy persists. Ultimately both headsets have their strengths and weaknesses, but for me, for pure PCVR, it's G2.

I was really starting to get concerned about aspects of the G2 on top of the annoyance of the botched rollout but this review did a fairly good job of putting my mind at ease when I watched yesterday. It seems the people getting the boot in the most expect the G2 to beat all the competition in every area purely because it has the best visuals. Fortunately it seems perfectly usable in most situations, but obviously has limitations in some areas otherwise it would cost as much or more than an Index and that would defeat the purpose of its existence.

Just hope HP can manage to withdraw their finger from their hoop and get mine to me inside a month!!

All this chat about dubious tracking - is it more concerning the controllers rather than the actual headset?

I'm primarily simming, so it would be reassuring to know it needn't bother me.

It does seem it's the perfect headset for simming.

And I think for me playing skyrim and basic games, good enough.

Competitive shooters and VR chat- not the best headset for.

From what I have seen on Reddit, usual and normal use seems to have no tracking issues whatsoever. Many comments saying Beat Saber on expert is absolutely fine and other games are also fine. It seems reviewers are finding where the tracking fails in edge cases and making a big deal over it.

Cant say im to bothered about the tracking reviews ive seen, i want this mainly for sims, if its kind of close to the quest 2, that will do me

Has any where in the world had more than their first shipment sent, Just wondering when the uk might see the next shipment sent, would be good if it was weekly,
Especially as first one is taking 13 days just to reach system active

Here is another excellent review.
There are some tracking issues, but yes, you can achieve about the same beat saber performance as with the quest.
There is a nice demo in the review as to at which point the tracking is lost.
I would agree, some reviewers are trying to overblow tracking hiccups, to seem, I don't know, more knowledgeable. Gotcha style, to raise esteem of the reviewer amongst the audience. I don't think that gives a balanced understanding of the product, which is the whole point of a review.

I'm the typical user on this thread it seems - I'm mostly just happy about the overwhelming sentiment of best visual clarity available and index rivalling class leading audio.

Of course I would take perfect controller tracking over mediocre tracking for when I do play games other than sims but image quality, comfort and audio are all higher priorities for me as long as the handset tracking "works". Headset tracking is obviously still important but that seems to be great from what I've seen. I've managed to hold off the Quest 2 so far but once I've got the G2 if I personally find it to be lacking outside of the sim rig I'll probably pick up the Q2 and enjoy wireless for my standing room scale type VR experiences.

Here's hoping Microsoft can put out some updates to WMR tracking to help with a few of the issues. I think unfortunately some of the issues are just due to the camera placement - they are all more or less along that same horizontal plane which gives a wide horizontal but short vertical tracking volume so they go out of view with hands down in the "low ready" or by your side and above your head. That said if Microsoft can improve the behaviour of controllers that lose tracking (ie don't allow it to do anything kinematically impossible, better dead reckoning, quicker re-capture) I think it could go a long way to addressing a lot of the complaints.

Update from bestware

Long anticipated update: Guys, It's bad news, but of course we also want to be transparent with you in times were things go south.

Our first expected delivery from HP, which we would have expected this week, was not yet shipped from the factory. We don't know the reason behind this delay as HP went radio silent about it. This is leading to all our pre-oders being delayed for at least two more weeks.

We have escalated the process internationally within HP and are waiting for updates every day. As soon as we receive news, we will contact our pre-order customers immediately and regularly by e-mail including expected delivery times based on our order queue.

As said before: We can only apologize for the massive inconvenience this is causing. I know how this must look like we are delaying the shipment week by week to keep you appeased, but this is not in our interest. The ETA for this first batch we were listing here was based on a scheduled shipment communicated to us by HP. This shipment did not leave the factory by now. We are doing everything in our power to expedite this delivery from HP! In the meantime we are trying to not make any false promises to you about a potential delivery date, but keep you updated as often as we can.

We of course fully understand your anger about another delay, but also hope for your understanding for our situation.

What a freaking shame. Not the delays, the radio silence on the HPs side. It has 0 excuse. Even if they totally cocked it up and are now running around like headless chicken having no clue on when they could send more units, they could at least come up with a decent apology.

Ah bestware, not Systemactive?

Is this for Germany not the UK?

Or was the UK shipment on the 13th also delayed?

Now for the first time I'M really worried.

the first batch deliveries on the 30st of November was a clearly communicated date.

Are the chinese factories really up and running properly? What's goign on with the delays with every gadget, video card etc.

Some people from the UK did pre-order with Bestware. Bestware were expecting a delivery sooner than SA, so if that failed, then why would the one for SA work out?

So yeah, you should be worried.

I don't think there is a big problem with the factories in china, I think the demand in crazy and supply lines are affected by Covid. In these circumstances some companies, which in the best of times were just OK-ish, appear to be totally failing to the point that they can't even pay due respect to their customers.

I hope that confirmation still stands, and it's not chaotic enough that they are just realising the shipments didn't leave the factory after all.

Is it one shipment per continent?
Or per country?

I mean we need different plugs to begin with.
Did the breaking clips and bad speakers etc made them double check things?
