HP Reverb G2 uk release date?

I
Is that it though? The Index is all round a better headset, for sure. But with it falling SO FAR behind the G2 for pixel count, and the G2 nicking half the tech from valve, I wouldn't say it's just an "inbetweener". For some, it's the enthusiast choice, and the index is a relic...Just a thought.
You make good points, and I think a lot of this is going to be based on personal opinions.

I don't think pixel count is everything here - the actual experience needs to be good too. For me, immersion is broken when tracking goes wrong - as it did on the early Quest software. Once that was fixed, I hardly was bothered by it's pixel count. Even when Oculus Link came along and gave me better visuals with PCVR, it was "Wow!" for a week or so, then it came back to how well everything held together (head tracking, hand tracking etc). I think that things might change if and when they improve the potential controller tracking with the Reverb - but I really can only offer my full opinions when I get the device.

I also don't know if up to 144hz makes a big difference to the Index experience - but I imagine FOV might.

The controllers and their tracking are the dealbreaker for me on the G2. It's a shame that a headset that gets so much right can be compromised by controllers which are just not as good as the Index or Oculus systems. If it had approximately equivalent controllers and tracking to the Quest 2 I'd be happy to sell my Index and get a G2. Unfortunately, even with software updates the controllers won't be as good as they still eat batteries, and have no capacative touch sensors.

Can't you sell the Index and keep the controllers?

I still think that it's subjective dependant on the user - Index controller and finger tracking is widely considered the best out there - but you're paying a premium for that. Oculus tracking is fantastic, but it' wasn't always good - in fact it was terrible, then good, then terrible again and then great - all down to software. Capacitive buttons - I don't know if I will miss those at all - and battery life with rechargeables isn't something that will bother me unless they die within a game. It's a mild inconvenience, but I would change them before I knew I had a long gaming session.

The capacitive thumb sensor on my left Index controller just broke and it's driving me crazy - thumb stuck up in the air when it shouldn't! In discussions with Valve support to get it replaced. The capacitive touch feature is one of the biggest drivers of immersion for me. I really notice it when it's not there.

New to this stuff but from my POV, having not used any of it, it sounds like having those controllers would be adding up to £200 to the price tag? If not more?
That could price a lot of people out when they're trying to entice new people like me in.
Would be great if they released capacitive controllers later as an add on. Or worked out a deal with valve to use theirs officially. They seem to work with fudged sw, they also worked with them on the lenses. Could be win-win for both as a big company like HP could probably get them at a decent price.

I am not sure hot G2 is "so much" compromised by its controllers.
Tracking is totally fine (link), just a tad behind Q2, so what is the problem? How would these controllers hinder you in comparison with Q2?
I think, the general issue of debating G2 is that neither of us actually have it. I hope it's not for long. If indeed the first batch in it entirety is getting shipped on the 15-th, then there is a glimmer of hope I get my second batch G2 by the end of December.

If G2 users are happy with the G2 controllers and tracking, then that's fine. Compared to earlier WMR and the Vive Focus the tracking is better.

For me, based on what I've seen in various reviews, I wouldn't be happy using a G2 as a general purpose headset due to the controllers. But if I could get one just for sims, I would.

Have you checked out the link I provided? Could you please tell me what you would not be happy with in that video? Tracking breaks only extremely close to ones face and is restored immediately as soon as controllers are in range of cameras. What do you want to improve here?

There are enough units in this first shipment to supply all pre-orders that were placed with us in July.

We will be getting weekly updates from HP about future shipments of the first batch and will communicate these to you as soon as we get them.

So, for those who pre-ordered in July, we expect you to receive these units on Monday, 30th November.

Some firm news at last. I ordered 1st August so I hope it's not a hard cut off for the end of July haha.

Just had this from System active :-

MRTV?? lol He is just a hype machine for whatever headset is coming out and I wouldn't take his reviews as any indication of how any product will work in the real world.

It's strange because there is no doubt some influencers have had tracking issues, where as others haven't.

Now unless 1 group are payed shills either by HP or by a.competitor (which I don't believe) then something strange is afoot . I watched MRTV live playing tsbletennis and various shooters and tracking seemed fine. This was in a live video so no fudging.

Yes it seems the headset struggles with controllers a few cm from the headset but it looked to me MRTV had to consiously break tracking for it to be an issue.

This leads me to lighting, or points of reference on tracking area. I wonder if the G2 is more sensitive to lighting issues? If so that is unfortunate BUT also means it won't affect everyone and also is fixable.

I would imagine it's how good the tester is? It's pretty easy to show inside out tracking in a good light if you concentrate on staying within the sweet spot of cameras. That's why tracking issues only really come known after a headset launches and the public get their hands on it.

Not saying that the Reverb G2 tracking is good or bad, but, you will only get a rough idea from reviewers. The proof will be when the it's out in the wild for a few weeks.

Maybe but he streamed live so he had no chance to cover issues up.

I must admit I am a bit worried tho

I wouldn't be worried. I think even if the tracking is bad at launch they will improve it over time. HP seems pretty committed to the VR space.

Unless improving tracking is dependent on Microsoft because it's the WMR platform. (I hope this isn't the case)

I think it maybe the case... MS control the winMR platform.

Such a shame. Imagine if Oculus partnered with HP to bring it out as a rift 2. That headset but with insight tracking using quest 2 touch controllers would be the mutts nuts
