HP Reverb G2 uk release date?

I think MRTV wanted to show things how they were. He did say Q2 visuals were nice, and they are most of the time.
To answer your question, G2 still has better visuals, less taxing on GPU vs Q2 link at 300Mbps (see my link above), much better comfort, best in class audio, no Facebook. For just PCVR G2 is worth the extra cost in my eyes. If standalone VR is of any value to you, then this may tip the balance in favour of Q2, provided you are ok with Facebook.

I already have a Quest - and had no issues with Facebook, as I don't use FB for anything else - they are welcome to whatever data is there. And yes, I know all the differences between the two, but one is £300 and is still a half decent PCVR AND a standalone headset with better controller tracking. As the PCVR visuals are actually better than I expected on the Q2, the gap is a lot less than I thought it would be when you weigh up the stuff that the Q2 does better (to be fair, the G2 isn't trying to compete as a standalone device, but it's still a factor).

Quest 2 is great, but, if you are a Sim player then the G2 will be better.
Totally agree - but whilst I do enjoy sim racing/flying/space'ing(Is that a thing?) I also enjoy a lot of 1st person games and experiences. At the point of ordering the G2, I was going to keep the OG Quest for the standalone family stuff, but a Q2 would cover off both. I know I can use Revive for the Rift stuff, but I have a lot of Quest specific stuff that I'll still have a need for

I guess we'll see how I feel on Tuesday - I have been holding off playing SW Squadrons in VR until this arrives :-)

Don't see any reason that would affect FPS. It's latency you should be concerned with.
Compression is extra work.

Facebook tracks you around internet, so it's not just what is in your account. Your Facebook account can be banned at any moment and there is no appeals process that I am aware of. There are other issues, it's Facebook after all.
But sure it is, if standalone is important, that may tip the balance in favour of Q2 for some users. For pure PCVR I'd go with G2.

There is a notable overhead for the compression and video streaming involved with using link

For example looking at the OpenVR benchmark for my card (a 2070S) the fastest result for a valve index at 2016x2240 is 46.82 while the fastest result for an OG quest at 1824x2016 is 40.07.... so despite running at a lower resolution than the index was running it at, it still scores ~14% slower.

Yeah, the irony is that to play some demanding VR titles (I am looking at you, No man's sky), a Q2 user would have to go for a top of the line GPU. At this point if you have splashed so much cash for a rig, it would make sense to splash a bit more for G2 and get an overall better and Facebook free experience. At least in my view any way. VR in it's current form is not for people on a strict budget. The VR analogue of 1080p pancake standard - 4k per eye was always going to be demanding. Adding an extra overhead may not be a good idea even with the best GPUs out there (provided you can even get one at a reasonable price).

I hope I get an email this week.
But I wouldn't mind if i just get my G2 at the door one day.
I wonder how many are in the first batch and how often batches will come-
People are constantly getting theirs delivered in the US from connection, seems like a good flow.
So I hope we'll really get them by the 10th!

Yeah not sure if there will be small batches coming or what I assumed, another massive batch to cover up to end of october, shall see, I guess thay did say "by" the 10th, so that may suggest bits at a time between now and the 10th maybe

i dunno, The Q2 is still a really capable pcvr device and in some ways is better than the G2..... i have (or will have) both, BUT if i could only have one it would be the quest 2. no question

wireless pc vr as well as standalone gaming trumps slighjtly better sound and visuals for me.

as for excited.... not really TBH. I am torn, I have still not decided if it is worth keeping it or not. part of me wonders if i should keep the Quest 2 and wait for something with less compromises esp WRT the tracking.

I agree actually. I have to qualify it of course as not actually having my G2 on hand yet, but just from all the reviews I think the Quest 2 is actually arguably likely to be the better overall experience for many. Obviously the G2 wins in visual fidelity, great built in audio solution and should also be more comfortable for most (even after strap mods for quest), and yes will likely be less demanding to run on your PC... but there is more to the overall experience than that. The Oculus software stack is far, far superior to WMR at the moment and quality of life things such as tap for full passthrough, controllerless hand tracking, insane controller battery life, better tracking volume and handling of tracking loss/resumption etc etc... plus it can play standalone and wireless VR through WiFi which really can't be overstated until you've tried it... one of the things I'm dreading about my G2 is the return to a tether. Even for those of us that play seated games the most, that wire is still a faff compared to going wire free, less of a problem than in standing games sure but good lord I can't wait until we can get a wireless link with no noticeable compromise on latency/compression.

This is where I differ, I'm very much excited. I fit the perfect user case for the G2 really - majority sim, with a little room scale on the side. I also avoided the temptation to pick up a Quest 2 (despite making my friend buy one lol), so have been headset-less for a couple of months now. I'm gagging for a good VR fix!

Some people are already trying the Valve index tracking- external sensors but altogether it would be an additional 600£.

As my first headset I'm really curios how well the tracking will fare for me. Luckily I'm not really into shooters.

I agree with all of that - I think that the Q2 could tick a lot more general boxes than the G2, but for my 'Sim' moments, the G2 will shine. I'm living in some hope that I can live with the tracking for the non sim stuff on the G2.
