By the sounds of it they have paid a higher price for stock earmarked for other suppliers. They have then added a margin on top of that. I think I read somewhere that it costs HP $340ish to make the things so whether its still good value is a personal opinion I guess.

Rumours going round work atm state production of the touchpads has now resumed and numbers produced look likely to exceed current backorders.

HP engineers also looking at a CR model to hit a £200/£250 price point.

Seems HP may not be out of the WebOS hardware market after all - what a saga!

Just sold my soul to the devil and went with Insight £194 total price..

it is clearly ******* obvious that they have just been giving all the UK stock I expect and £190 is the new "unofficial" price it would seem

Feel dirty now :)

You could be right.

My contract's due so I'm selling my phone £140 I'll get from Mazuma etc.

Add that to the £209.99 it would cost me for this Touchpad, and that's £350, which is £50 away from buying a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 - This is how I'm looking at it.

If I pay £200 for a Touchpad, I might as well get a 10.1

I still reckon this was all planned and the firesale was a Trojan Horse for a newer model sometime down the line. Turns out HP can capitalise much much quicker than they anticipated.

Not that it's a bad thing. Future for WebOS and those lucky enough got some real cheap hardware.

Or get yourself a highly discounted tablet, eventually it will be able to run android and use the £140 from phone to spend elsewhere. :)

Could do, but I wouldn't pay £200 for something I don't particularly like the look of. The 4:3 ratio annoys me and in my eyes, I've already decided it's not worth any more than the £90/£115 originally offered.

It's too late now anyway as Insight have now sold out completely.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a CR model?

Cost Reduced - like the Playstation slim models, Amiga 600 etc - happens a lot - even 6 months down the line you can get smaller, cheaper components that let you repackage and provide the same specs in less space and for less money.

It's worth remembering that the touchpad design is 12 months old now, much progress has been made in that time.

I think the firesale has demonstrated there wasn't anything inherently wrong with the design (some minor aesthetics aside) it was simply overpriced. The platform itself is obviously viable.
