They are refurbished models though... and are apparently being offered to HP employees first, so personally I would be surprised to see a similar offer here in the UK.

Even if it were, is there still a demand for these I wonder? At that price I would probably say yes!

Nope don't do SD cards. I hope you paid the firesale price for one lol. Never used the HP TP site but I suggest you use Precentral for all your TP needs including the extensive but very useful setup guide.

If you can get one on the cheap - go for it as it will be much better than any budget tablet out there. I use it mainly for watching and browsing and it does it fine. The setup guide I mentioned is just installing some updates, patches and overclocking the CPU to its intended default. Fairly easy to follow. If you are going to spend hundred of pounds, suggest you do not get the TP.

its impossible to get one cheap now.

does she really need a touchpad? i dont think anyone really does in this day and age, should all have pc's or laptops for browsing and watching movies, etc.

i have my pc connected to my 42 inch plasma, fiancee uses laptop to connect to her 46 inch lcd tv.

or you can buy a media player for less than £100 to watch stuff through.

if your looking to spend £300+ then get a transformer or equivalent.

most people who have bought touchpads hardly use them, i use mine for reading, but i usually do read several hours on a daily basis and download the pdf's on my pc then transfer them over.

Touchpad no, tablet yes.

And I just don't believe your last statement. Everyone I know who has got a tablet uses it more than they ever thought they would.

PC is chained to a desk, you can't do anything with it in a field.
Laptop is big heavy and kills battery.

Tablets are light, easy to chill out with be it sofa, train or a campsite.

outside the home tablet is the best option

inside the home, a laptop destroys a tablet in every department. because you dont need "apps" to be able to do what you want, you have a physical keyboard making typing 100 times faster, etc. ive noticed the boot times on the touchpad are ridiculous too it takes an age to startup and battery life is fairly crap tbh, your lucky to get more than a couple of hours tbh if your intensively using wifi, etc with skype.

I use my TP inside considerably more than I used my laptop. A couple of hours seems odd - 720p video play back drains my battery the quickest but I can still get a few hours.

it's webos that boots slowly, not the touchpad's fault - cm7 is much quicker, and you can use any bluetooth keyboard with it if you really want a hardware keyboard. yes, no video output perhaps is a drawback next to other tables but i wouldnt use a tablet to play video on a tv anyway - webos video support is..ok, and so is android, but its not brilliant and really it just isnt a rebust enough solution (bluray rips, hd audio? forget it lol). media players are cheap these days, so i would be doing that rather than trying to use a tablet, if a pc isnt an option.

It really doesn't. You don't need keyboard or massive case. You have to sit up straight and use your lap/table for a laptop. Tablet you just hold.

the touchpad is heavy imo, i would prefer to have something in my lap than be holding something up, and a proper keyboard makes typing, etc 100 times faster.

it depends what your going to be using it for but in 9 cases out of 10, a laptop is better, they have much more cpu power and ram for a start as well as applications, etc.

i also find the wifi on the touchpad to be slow, on my pc pages load instantly, on the touchpad they take several seconds.

what will your sister be using it for, you said watching movies and browsing.

a tv is far better for watching movies on, and if i was on the go, it's practically impossible to watch a movie unless your on a 2 hour train/plane journey.

watching a movie in 20 minute clips would be horrible, i'd rather just listen to music and watch the movie when i get home.

same goes for browsing, with the touchpad you can only browse indoors, and for browsing not having a keyboard makes it a lumber some task.

tablets are fairly crap imo, it's a luxury gadget which fills a hole in the market which didn't really need filling, if you have money to blow then sure it's great.

my cousin plays poker on his ipad a lot, and guess what he hates holding it up, he prefers to have it lying down, in which case a laptop is so much better, bigger screen, better sound, etc.

i have a touchpad at £100 sure its a no brainer, talk about spending over £250 then a laptop any day.

.

Again that's not the case, talk to people who have purchased tablets. Most now use them 99% of the time over their pcs, laptops, notebooks. Oh and tablets can be rested on your lap, or sofa arm or in a number of ways.

What do you need all that CPU power for?
Browsing ocuk, browsing Facebook, watching YouTube, writing an email, watching tv/film. None of what a home computer is used for these days requires power or keyboard.

And you know there is more to tablets than touchpad, I've already written that idea off before you joined in.
And yes 2hr journeys are common and great for film watching.

You clearly have no idea. Get yourself a decent tablet, then come back and tell me they are useless and you don't watch films on it and that your pc is still used most of the time.

A tablet is no way a replacement for a PC or a laptop. The people on here who think it is obviously aren't using their laptops or PC for many tasks.

For example, multitasking is a pain in the arse.

That's most of the population.
Email, Facebook, YouTube, music, video/tv, shopping, browsing, twitter, news

That's pretty much all anyone does.

And those that do do much more like work will still have a laptop or pc, but still use tablet for general browsing.

Also windows8 with true multitasking and split screen as well as keyboard cases/transformer like devices, blurs those boundaries even more.
