HRT

I imagine there are less FIA hoops to jump through too.

But is it a team anyone would want to buy? They don't have anything 'up their sleeve' and seem to just be a money sink that's going backwards...

The only thing you are buying is the entry.

You can't just rock up at the door of the FIA and say "I'd like to enter F1 races please".
Thats why when the "new" teams joined in 2010 there was a bid process where the teams had to show their capability, finances etc.
Prodrive applied for a spot at the same time, but were turned down (probably because they'd been granted a spot in 2008 then decided not to compete).

So, if you want to go play F1 team boss splash your cash :D

I think the best route for a new owner is buy the entry, get the Toyota facility in Germany to design and construct a car for you whilst you build up a team and find your feet, then gradually take over the design/construction aspects. Long, hard and expensive road though.

Its been alleged that the recent failure on the HRT cars have been due to pushing parts past their service life because there is no money to replace the parts.

Hi, a decent manager can get profit from any F1 team, they don't have to win they just need to secure backing and get wealthy pay-drivers.

Holzer haven't exactly been producing quality parts. Combine that with HRT's earlier change in wing design altering their airflow characteristics, and the brakes overheated. Incidentally in the three races after Canada, both cars made it to the finish.

Money sink? No, HRT just demonstrates you can't run a competitive F1 team on $40 million, it requires serious investment to start from scratch. Just look at Caterham and Force India, billionaire owners and they're still having problems. F1 is a money sink, why do you think midfield teams run pay drivers and budgets are still in the hundreds of millions range up front?

As much as I don't like Maldonado, he did win a race and often outpaces his team mate.

Who is also a pay driver.

I think peoples main issue with Maldonado is the sheer quantity of money he pays for his seat, and the questionable origin of that money.

I can't see there being anything in HRT worth buying, so someone could buy it for the entry, flog all the bits, and then start fresh with their own team?

This just comes across as not liking the driver. What about all the arab oil money? Is that clean?

Completely this.

HRT have very little in the way of assets. They have a fantastic looking office, which they rent, and a car which is now at least 18 months out of date with no real signs of updates or improvements.

The only person who will buy the team is someone who want's the entry license and will throw away anything with 'HRT' on it and start again. At the moment, I don' think that will be anyone.

Back to a 22 car grid we go.

Great that the FIA hobbled the top teams and continues to do so just so the likes of HRT can take part, hopefully Ferrari buy them and do what Red Bull are.

I'm a bit surprised they haven't done something like this before, they have been after a third car for a while haven't they? So why not start a second team and run 4.

It should really be sold off as an entry fee for 2014.

I'm not sure who would want to buy up a team and spend vast amounts making a car for a set of regs that will be done at the end of the season. You really want to be buying in with a view to having 18 months of development with the 2014 regulations and coming in for that season. No one is going to miss HRT not being there for one year and the team coming in would at least have a half chance of making a reasonable car.
