HRT

It shows how quick things move on, the Brawn wing looks so basic now compared to them in 2011/12.

Don't forget that they had the adjustable front wing in 2009 (they could adjust it up/down 2/3 times a lap, the idea being to help with following another car - kind of DRS mk1 :D) which may have meant they couldn't hang all the myriad elements off it in the way of the movable section.

That said I still don't like the 'snowplough' front wings and wish the FIA would reintroduce a rule about having flat vertical endplates. The rear wings are too narrow too :(

Has there been any word from Pirelli or the FIA over what they think is going on? I don't think its clear weather the problem is a change in the construction of the tyres or the developments in ever more complex and intricate (and sharp) front wing end plates?

Could be a combination on both.

I assumed it was just the narrower performance gap between the cars means there is a lot more of wheel to wheel action this year. Plus we got people who give no quarter on the racetrack like Maldonado and Grosjean battling for positions in very competitive cars.

Maybe, but I can remember people bashing wings before that didn't end in a puncture. Didn't Barricelo come second in Australia in 2009 having been side swiped (or side swiping others) about 3 times?

Now it seems that even the slightest touch means insta-puncture.

I think it may be more down to the new pirelli tyres being more 'puncture prone' then the actuall wings. Tyre pressures when racing will be high also increasing chances of a puncture.

Dont forget carbon fibre is very sharp when it breks up into pieces

The tyres for next year are a different construction and quite a lot heavier (around 1kg per tyre) so maybe Pirelli are solving the issue?

good article on this?

Has constructions changed again (like last winter), or are they just making them thicker (but with same tread depth etc)

Tyre pressures when racing will be high also increasing chances of a puncture.

Do pressures change that much (in relation to the same weather conditions on the same track with same formation/ make of tyre)

I always thought this would be relatively consistant

It was in F1 Racing this month. They are heavier but the shape when still is the same, but the rears will slightly change shape under load, which may mean some tweaking of the rear aero. Nothing said about heat cycles, how long they last etc yet. Guess we won't find out until winter testing.

Yep, read it on the train this morning :)

Was just an article saying that they will be available in P1 at Brazil for the teams to test. Exactly what has changed we won't know until next year I imagine.

Frank - tyre pressures are fairly constant. They heat the wheels to near racing temperatures before fitting them to ensure the pressures remain the same. A tyre in the race will be at a similar pressure to one during qualifying. Anyone know what pressures F1 tyres run at? I know that they make changes as small as half a PSI to alter the cars behaviour during a race.

Thats exactly what I thought , thank you for the confirmation :)

David Richards wont give up will he. He said he would never come back to F1 after leaving BAR... then lodged an entry for the slots in 2010. He then said he would never come back to F1 after being denied a spot... and now looks to be in the hunt again :D

I wonder what they would do for branding if he did buy the team? They could use the Aston Martin name. Gulf liveried Aston Martin F1 cars, om nom nom!
