USF1 seemed like a bit of a shambles, although if F1 in America does pick up an American team would seem like a good thing.

Some of the other teams that applied at least seemed to have a better chance like Prodrive or Stefan GP. Didn't Alex Wurz front one of the entries too? Always quite liked him, though he's working with Williams now.

I think Shambles gives them too much credit. It was a non-entity really :p (although more credable than Stefan GP!)

Prodrive have been shaping up the entry for years, but I think Budget cap would be needed to allow Richards to consider it seriously again. Who knows though, if they can secure some serious sponsorship it might be enough to tempt him again.

Ah I see, I remeber them (or him as the case may have been :p) making a lot of noise about having bought the old Toyota cars or something, it sounded pretty promising but must have been a load of hot air.

Yeah you're right, still pretty amazing they were one of the teams selected originally considering how rubbish it all was.

They had some rented space in the Toyota place if i remember rightly, and some support from Toyota for development. Although how much support, and how official it was is up for debate..
I don't think they ever actually purchased a cars. There was some media hype about a fire-up and a red paint job though!

*Just looked at Wikipedia, and that is mostly accurate as i remember it...

That was when Carabante owned the team, he signed a contract for Toyota to help with the tech and design side, it seems HRT broke the conditions of the contract, according to Joe Saward Toyota are pursuing the matter through the courts
