**HTC HD2 Thread**

Good mini-review Russ, couple of questions for you. Can you do file transfer with bluetooth, phone>phone/pc and vice versa, and can you customise the bar at the bottom that has icons for stocks, twitter etc. Because i would never use the stocks for example, so could i put something else on there like facebook for example?

Yup, tho it's better on Vista/7 than XP. On the former, you use Windows Mobile Sync Centre, which allows you to access both the phone's storage and memory card at the same time, but in XP you have to choose one or the other when you connect. Haven't tried Bluetooth yet but I imagine you can.

Yes, but you can only take on/off and move around the defaults, not add something new like Facebook.

It's also one of my biggest niggles: the niggle is that on the Home Screen (see my first post), you can access the weather and calendar by pressing on the relative areas - but ONLY if you have them as tabs.

I don't see the point in having weather as a tab for example if you can access it from the home screen... but you have to have it for it to work. A small but annoying niggle.

PS. If anyone wants any screenshots of anything (such as text message convos or anything else you don't usually see in a shop/video review) then let me know :).

Russinating, thanks for the comprehensive review. It looks like I'll be going for this in the next day or so once I find a decent contract.

Russinating - could you please post pics of the HTC messaging stuff?

I personally like to stick to a normal "classic" TXT view (individual texts - not threaded), so i'm just curious what it looks like on the Sense UI.

If it's decent, I might not disable it :D

Also: Something i've not seen mentioned anywhere - what does the locked screen look like - WITH the pin prompt? (I leave my phone around the office a lot and can't have colleagues looking at my filth.... errr i mean documents!)

Yeah any pics would be great Russ, as i think i'm just about sold on this phone its just if trying to get as much info as i can on it first.

Think the only problem most people seem to be having at the min is to do with texts. Read on some forums that people aren't getting message sent/delivered alerts, and texts not sending or being recieved for a while that some on here have had.

As requested:

These are the various text views. All the text sizes can be changed, I have it on 'Smaller' - 1 off the smallest size.

This is what you see when you go the messages tab. You swipe up/down to go through older messages and the transition is VERY sexy and smooth.

This is the lock screen (haven't used pin but I assume it's similar):

Oh and the lock screen is different to the home screen wallpaper, although obviously I've chosen the same picture. That way you could have a sexy lady or something as your wallpaper but a landscape on lock when your colleagues come round ;).

That does all look very nice. What's the Facebook integration like? Any compatibility with Facebook chat? Also, what about MSN?

Thanks. :)

Facebook integration is good, but could be slightly better. All your contacts can be attached to a Facebook profile but this has to be done manually (the bit that could be better). The rest is great - takes their birthday, profile picture etc from there for the contact profile and displays their status underneath their name in your contacts list.

The Facebook app doesn't support Facebook chat.

MSN is fine. Pretty bog standard app (not in terms of looks or functionality... but just does what you expect).

I'm very interested in getting myself one of these for christmas, mobiles.co.uk has a good deal on a Voda contract @ £25 a month with 600 mins and unlimited texts, but no t'interwebs. Would I be able to haggle the net in to the package or is there no hope? That's the one thing putting me off atm.

Seems a very good deal, how much is the phone on that tariff? I would have thought they would be able to add a net package to it, but you'll probably have to pay for it, £5 extra something like that. I was looking at the T-Mobile one on MPD; free phone, 700 mins, unlimited txts and net for £35 on an 18 month plan.

Phone is £50, the tariff has a discount along with a few others. 24 month contract.

No problem, and yes :).

Ah okay.

I'm just going to be annoyed if, when I finally get my T-Mobile HD2, I discover it's horribly branded!

A lot of people have said it isn't - but i'm not sure they actually got theirs from T-Mobile.

Anyways - can't wait to get it!

Ohh actually - what ROM version is yours? I hear the "over sensitive" keyboard has been toned down a bit in the latest official HTC ROM...
