**HTC HD2 Thread**

have you tried playing a video back at full quality, as i saw a vid on youtube where it slowed the phone down a lot and the audio/video was out of sync.

My Touch Pro2 plays 400x220 videos smooth as silk, so the HD2 with double the RAM and mhz should play a normal dvd quality video without any issues. Though I would use Coreplayer rather than WMP.

What is call quality like, most reviews i've read said its fine, but have seen one that said they had static in the speaker and the quality wasn't brilliant.

I guess it's... fine. I've used it both normally and on loudspeaker and it seems fine.

As a couple of others have asked does it have the 3 sec delay when ringing

I don't know what this is (never had a WM phone before) but I haven't had any problems with incoming calls.

and finally have you tried playing a video back at full quality, as i saw a vid on youtube where it slowed the phone down a lot and the audio/video was out of sync.

I played the HD trailer of Avatar and it was fine. Previously it had been a bit jerky but now I've got a decent task manager you can ensure everything else is closed.

I'm also planning on putting some of my own 720p films on the phone but haven't got round to this yet.

If you have vibrate and ringtone on do you hear/feel the vibrate about 3 seconds before hearing the ringtone?

Ah this is the setting that everyone gets wrong and there is a 3 second delay if you set it as the following.....

Vibrate THEN Ring, it vibrates first and the ringtone kicks in after 3 seconds....

Vibrate AND Ring, does exactly what it should right away :D

It's strange there is two settings but hey if you select the right one there is no problems :)

Oh yeah Russ 1.48 is great so far and no text problems....yet....*touch wood*

Cheers for the answers Russ and everyone else. Think its time to order my new phone :D

Watch them have no stock left lol.

Argh, work gos and makes things more complicated for me.

After playing with a HD2 for several hours during a very quiet day in store, I said, 'sod it, I will get one' - I then phone staff accounts to make sure that my staff account cancellation is going through fine, and they tell me its all good, and they can either pick up my Bold 2 off me, or I can pay £100 and keep it... so now I've paid the £100 and I still want a HD2, decisions decisions.

Although, the more I read about it, and the more I play with it, the more sure I am of my decision, sod it HD2 for me tomorrow!

Phone ordered :D

Can't wait, my N95 has been a really good phone and served me well, but looking forward to seeing what the HD2 can do.

What is the sound quality like when listening to music through headphones? My ipod classic is ridiculously quiet beacause of the EU volume limit :(. So if the HD2 is louder then I will love the phone even more!

I came from an N95 too, you won't regret it, especially if yours was anything like mine towards the end - I didn't know Symbian was a type of African land snail.

Mini review update!

Pros
  • Opera is BLAZINGLY fast. At a pub quiz tonight (no cheating, just checking after quesitons hand in) my HD2 **** all over my friends iPhone repeatedly. The first time I loaded Opera, typed a long Google search, loaded Google and followed a link through to Wikipedia before my friends iPhone had loaded Wikipedia from his Google search. Total time for me was about 8 seconds, including typing.

Cons
  • I had the SMS bug again today. It really needs to be fixed properly. I'm going into Vodafone tomorrow to complain. A quick fix seems to be to send another text - it's like flushing the toilet again when the loo's blocked - seems to flush it all out.
  • On the subject of SMSs, HTC or the guys at XDA really need to make an SMS-convo-limit patch. At the moment the phone loads ALL previous texts you've had with a contact in your conversation, and with one of my contacts at the moment it takes a good 10 seconds before I can start to type as it loads the 200 odd past texts. A lot of people are complaining about this so hopefully it won't be long.
  • The camera isn't amazing. It's ok, but not as good as the 5mp camera on the N95 I came from.

Read a fair bit on the sms bug, its a weird one. Has anyone on T-Mobile or any other networks experienced it, because it seems a lot of people that are getting it are on Vodafone. And shame about the camera as i use the one on my N95 a fair bit, but thats only because i was too tight to buy a proper digital camera :D. Hopefully stuff like the sms bug and others will be fixed soon.

Guess what I have it on, Vibrate then ring...:p

Having said that if that is the reason people keep complaining about the 3 second thing then they are tools, however it usually comes in a barrage of anti WM anyway sooo...

As for the texting, you sure it's not something wrong with Vodafone and not the HD2 (or any software Voda put on)? It seems it's only Voda phones that are having the problem (or at least from the limited reading i've done). Also I doubt they will sort the text limiter out. I have the same problem on my (original) HD, takes a few seconds to load my GF text conversation up, however it doesn't seem to slow down after a while (still only around 5-10 seconds here after a year).

hey there guys. got my hd2 around 2 weeks ag. im with a lot of people here in that i think generally, it is a great phone. the web browser really is as gud as people say. for the first time with a phone i can actually be bothered to load up the web for casual browing because it is so quick and easy (coming from an n95).

i am however considering sending back to o2 because of the battery life. is this a porblem for anyone else. how much charge are people getting out of theirs. i can barelly get a day out of mine if i use it heavily, and im just not sure if this is normal for the phone or what. has anyone got any tips for increasing the battery life apart from turning screen brightness down.

ireally dont want to have to send it back but i just dont see the point in having an incredible phone if im scared about using it because it kills the battery

I also am getting the SMS bug on Vodafone, didn't notice it until a mate rang me asking why i hadn't replied to his last few txts, looked in outbox and saw them sitting there from all throughout the day :(

Have got it set to High Priority and 5 retries but pretty sure thats just for MMS. have set to Traditional mode this morning

HJK3958 - I have found mine better than my iPhone 3G in battery use which would last just one day under a couple of hours net browsing and a few calls - was dire after a while! My HD2 will go a couple of days when being used quite a bit. That said what is heavy use for you? Opinion on this will vary person to person

It's the trade-off you have to make for having such a beefy cpu.

Drop the screen brightness to 50/60%, screen off after 10 seconds, and make sure you don't leave wifi on if you are not using it.

Pretty much any decent smartphone these days needs daily charging if you use it constantly, you get used to it.
