solved the first problem as below, now looking for solution for the second

Hi Everyone. I think i had the same problems as you when i first got my htc hd2... My problem was i couldnt setup a hotmail account so it would sync the mail to the phone.

I found the fix and it is as follows:

Press Start ------ Settings------- Press Menu (At botton of screen)----- press all settings ------ press connections--------then press connections icon... press manage existing connections---then at the botton press-----proxy settings...

now if you have a tick in the box that says.... "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet" make sure you untick it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats the problem untick this option!!!! As soon as you do all your mail syncs will work perfecto :)

Just ordered one of these on T-Mobile but have a couple of questions:

- Can I unlock it to another network? If so is this something I can do myself or do I have to pay for the service?

- What program/apps do you need for the playback of divx/xvid/avi files?

Many Thanks,

Alty

**EDIT**

Also, how easy is the screen to scratch?

1. You'd have to pay.
2. Coreplayer 1.36 does a great job with SD files. You can re-encode 720p videos in to 800x480 mp4s to play in HTC Album with great quality.
3. Fairly scratch resistant, but decent screen protectors are cheap, look for E-Cell ones on Ebay, I have one on mine and it's great.

Got a strange problem with my phone at the moment. The other day I wondered why I couldn't connect to the internet on it. I was at work so wasn't overly concerned but when I got home I checked and for some reason my data settings seem to have removed themselves :/ Weird I thought so set I them back up and got back on the internet.

Now I've discovered that if I go on facebook for example and end task on the application or just switch my phone off it will forget my username and password, meaning that everytime I use it I have to log in. PITA. I can stay logged in if I leave the app running in the background though. To me this seems like a problem with cookies, like you might get on a PC but haven't yet found a way to stop it happening on the phone.

Any Ideas?

.

I'm using the beta 10 version of opera available here http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/ It is installed as a separate product to the original Opera 9.7 that came with the HD2.

Most of the cab's on xda work well, I'm only running a couple of then, but the nice options are,
relpy to email not reply to all
Win 7 icons - much nicer to the eye
and 4 column start menu as apposed to 3 column

Oh also running the 1.66 rom Official on virgin :)

I'd be interested to see where you get this info from. HTC said yes, and Microsoft are now saying no.

I know you could probably get the rom onto it, but surely it's going to be buggy as hell.

It CAN and WILL go on. No OFFICIAL update will be received due to the HD2 not having the correct buttons to meet WinMo 7 spec.

Having said that, XDA Devs will be on it like jam on a doughnut and the community will update it.

Only down to being MS being petty, I think Microsoft want to go with a more harmonised approached with Windows Mobile, it worked for Apple and it'll work for Microsoft as long as they do it right. Android is falling apart at the seems because of fragmentation and no one really taking ownership/responsibility for the platform.

Sounds like you read the same article as me.

I don't think Fragmentation is killing Android, if any Android is still just a standard that can be built on. Android for mobiles will always remain Android, just it'll be sugar coated to match manufacturers specifications. Nothing wrong with that in the slightest.

I think it's down to the Market, the compatibility issues that seem to be putting devs off. The Android Market has a distinctly amateurish feel to it. It also does not help that new devices are still being launched on 1.6 when 2.1 has been around for a while. I think Android will fall by the wayside and Windows Mobile will make ground.

I hear you!

I also hear some apps don't work with Nexus One due to screen resolution etc. Therefore some sort of standard should be applied, so i guess i agree in some respects.

I've not experienced the Android market first hand, but all that would need reviewed is the layout. A brief change of coding (as per HTML, CSS) could revampt the whole thing.

The negative points about Android could end up being the positives, i mean, just look at how far it's come in less than a year and 6 months. Not bad huh?

BTW, What Microsoft are doing with Xbox/PC/Phone integration is amazing... And i'm not even a gamer (Check out the vid on gizmodo/engaget etc)
