***HTC Magic Thread***

Thanks for letting me know about the mic volume.

I have found an outstanding bug on the cyanogen site, looks as though an issue with the volume was fixed but the recent ROMs have re-introduced it but there are work arounds listed on the site. :)

Cheers,

David

So.. for all you that have went for 4.1.11.1, did you do a wipe prior to upgrading or did you use cm updater on the handset and install that way?

Thinking of going for 4.1.11.1 tonight

CM updater uses the same method as recovery mode, it just automates the initial steps to get into recovery and choose update.

I did a wipe after installing and seeing what works. As I said above, gmail did not work so I had to reboot and wipe then it worked.

If i wipe that means a reinstall of all the apps tho.. hmmm... might give it a bash anyway.

cheers

It's worth doing as it's very good and fast. There are a few niggling issues regarding an error I get if I have a certain widget, or possibly more, on my screen, from what I've been reading it's to do with the widget not being totally compatible with 1.6 atm, but I've yet to try and work out which one was one(s) were causing it.

One other thing I've just discovered is an issue with MyTracks where these a block of squares on the lower left portion of the screen that overlay they map. Never mind, I'm sure most of these apps will be updated soon enough now developers have the sdk.

Despite these few issues, I am happy enough to leave it on my phone.

I have another question.

Not sure of its a network setting / provider thing?

Anway, on my C905 on Orange there was a feature where if my phone was off, and someone rang me, it would tell me when i turn it on that i had a miss call, does such a thing exist for this phone? or is it to do with Vodafone/Orange?

Hi Kerplunk,

With Vodafone this function is at network level and is called Call Catcher for more information on this click here.

It's also worth mentioning that if you've got voicemail activated then Call Catcher won't work for you.

Thanks,

Lee

I bit the bullet last week. Successfully rooted and installed Cyanogen 4.0.4.

the difference in speed and responsiveness is amazing comapred to the stock Magic ROM.

Didn't partition the SD Card to install apps but did download TA Utility, which moves the cache from internal memory of Browser, Market, Maps, Street View and Gmail to the SD Card.

Tempted to install 4.1.11.1 but will probably wait until that gets a stable release.

Some of the rooted apps are well worth it. AdFree is one of them.

Just installed 4.1.11.1, had a few force closes on the Market, no biggie. But for some reason if I install the Hero keyboard and set Touch Input as default it just keeps crashing.

The major problem is AppManager can't see my installed apps, which means I can't uninstall the default keyboard and get the Hero kb working, which is what I usually do.

Nice one. It's just getting over that initial worry that you'll brick your phone, a worry that stopped me rooting and going to 4.0.4 for a few weeks after getting the phone, but once you do it's great.

Now I've done a couple of flashes, now on 4.1.11.1, I am confident that unless I do something stupid, or get very very unlucky, I can flash this phone as much as I feel like.

One thing I may try at some point is going back to a bog standard 1.5 Cupcake just so I know I can do it if ever needed.

Ah yes I was wondering if others were having that issue with AppManager.
