***HTC Magic Thread***

Yep.

Am I meant to keep the phone plugged into the computer through USB?

No but you need some sort of data connection be it wifi or some such.

Try the earlier Flashrec, that olde rone is the one I used. If that doesn't work I shall upload, and link you, the cm-recovery-1.4.img Flashrec downloaded to my sdcard as I still have it backed up on my computer.

Hmmm. Perplexing. I am wondering if you have the "fixed" version of 1.5

Here's a link to cm-recovery-1.4.img

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete-salisbury/cm-recovery-1.4.img

Download that, rename it

recovery.img

and stick it in the root of your sdcard. Run the new version of Flashrec, do another backup then in the dialogue box type

recovery.img

and hopefully you can then flash it.

I just installed that older version of Flashrec on my phone and it had the option for me to download the recovery image. Maybe you need to uninstall the newer version first?

Very strange!

When I first rooted mine I dont ever recall it being this complex/tedious - I just installed flashrec, flashed recovery, booted itno recovery, flashed the rom, wiped phone, rebooted and BAM!

It does sound like something is blocking you from installing the correct recovery though ;/

Have you tried what I said, download my copy of 1.4 rename it then put it on your sdcard and type the name recovery.img into the box? Try that, obviously skipping the backup part since you can't and see what happens.

Yeah Flashrec 1.1.3. :D Just removed that and installed 1.1.2 and I get all the buttons people talk about. :p Just about to boot into recovery mode. Dare me? :p

So the phone will boot into recovery mode for me and I'll have an option to make a nandroid backup?

You'll either get the reboot option or have to reboot into recovery manually and then you'll see this...

recovery.png

nandroid backup is there

I trust, after you did a nandroid backup, you wiped your phone via the wipe data/factory reset option before applying the htc recovery file?

Damn, this is almost exciting.

Good, good. After you apply the cyanogen 4.2.5 zip and then reboot it may take a while to load up as it always seems to after flashing a new rom.

It's booting up! Got the Android text but with an enlarged 'O' in the style of an arrow going back on itself with a wittle cute Android standing in it. :)

That's good to know, at least it's not stuck on a black screen which usually indicates some things gone **** up :D
