HTC Vive

Added 1.5 SS today, much clearer is 2.0 recommended?

Really really loving the Vive, so glad I bought it as when I pressed the pay button on Wednesday I was unsure if I'd like it. I can now play for an hour before I start feeling the effects, better than the 20mins and sitting by the toilet for 2 hours on Friday. This really will be the future of gaming, it's not perfect yet for a few reason, seeing the pixels is a little killer for me and things blur off toward the bottom of the FOV a little or is that just me?
Love Brookhaven first game thats made me jump in over 20 years. Looking forward to future titles on the Vive things could get really good.
Purchase of the year for me.

Me too got mine on Friday after watching hundreds of youtube vids and several months of umming and arring all I can say is WHY did i wait? Its absolutly bleeming awsome must have done 30 hours in 3 days, youtube vids cannot pervay the sense of scale (the cockpits in elite are the size of living rooms, the zombies in brookhaven are 6 feet tall and scary as hell.) In the blu you feel like your there underwater scuba diving. Interacting in the environment with the controllers is mind blowing and second nature (in raw data the controllers look like hands after a second my brain thought they WERE my hands).
The only time I get a little dizzy is when doing barrel rolls in elite then when I level out it goes away so maybe Iam lucky I that respect.
The fov is quite large imho, there is a sweet spot in the center of the lens then towards the edges it does get a little soft but you soon learn to head look rather than eye look. The screen door effect is there if you really look for it but once in game it just goes out of your mind. You do see occational god rays in high contrast scenes like titles etc.
So to summerise its awesome plain and simple the pros out way the negative like a million to one, go and try one in a shop I guarentee you will buy one there and then.

Received my Vive yesterday, set it up (ghetto'd the second sensor by having it on top of a chair on the table :p) and.... wow!

I have only played the tutorial and Officer worker simulator but the sense of actually being there is real.

I felt a little "odd" after taking the headset off (following ~ 30 mins of play) but no sickness. I am also pleased that my glasses haven't caused any issues. The headset fits around them (snuggly) and there is no discomfort.

My 4770 / Titan seems to be coping ok, although I have only tried the job simulator type games so need to try something a little more strenuous before deciding on whether I need to upgrade or not.

Overall I am very pleased. :)

EDIT: In regards to upgrading my GPU I assume that a 1070 would make more sense than a 980Ti (given the similar pricing)?

Get a 1070 over the 980ti. Dont forget to try supersampling set mine to 1.3 and the image quality is drastically improved.

Anyone here tried Subnautica? If so how does it work with movement, do you have to do a full 360 to turn around or can you still use a keyboard/mouse?

Completely unaware of VR btw :p

I am playing Subnautica, make sure you opt in for the beta version as this has a couple of essential fixes. Works fine with a controller btw, you can look to turn but also use the controller. I have really good 'vr legs' but I can see how it could make those susceptible to motion sickness quite ill!

Yeah but that's where it heading. Listening to a podcast while ago, a developer was saying he's currently writing vr training instructors for bp.

I'm another Subnautica player. It's really shonky I'm my opinion. Skips a lot of frames no matter what settings I seem to run at. Super sampling made it far worse (1.5) Which is a shame because the game shines in VR, I enjoy playing it.

Any tips or settings, would be good.

Ok I made a mistake last night. I tried running the Nvidia VR Funhouse on my Titan. Everything was fine on the menu but the first "game" absolutely tanked my frame rate causing near instant nausea. I would have fallen over if the Mrs hadn't of caught me.... :o

Not a nice feeling.

Played some more Job simulator after taking a break and everything was fine again.

I will try super sampling tonight as it would be nice to clear up the image a little.

Weird. My 980ti plays well on funhouse with medium. No stuttering

The suoersampling trick doesnt work on unity games right? Mine is 1.5x

My Titan is the original Titan (GK110). For VR purposes it is significantly slower than a 980Ti (980Ti is probably twice as fast in this regard). I am only using it as a stop gap card until I decide what to upgrade to. :)

It is fine in the other games I have tried (so far).

Ok, another question;
who has the smallest roomscale here? The info says you need 1.5m x 2m. I have that, but only just with no space to spare.
I don't want to use a vive sitting down a la Rift as i think i'll get nausea.
For thos with small roomscale areas, do you swap between that and sitting down to play games? Do some games require you to physcially move around?

Do some games require you to physically move around?

Most games that are meant for roomscale involve physical movement, even those with teleport mechanics.

I have 2.5x2.5 and wouldn't really want anything smaller as it's already pretty easy to trigger chaperone unless you are dead central.

My current "play area" is 1.6x2.1m so just over the minimum and it is ok in the games I have played.

I will however be moving the setup to a larger ~ 2x2.5m area once I order / receive the sensor stands. This area also has the added benefit of not being directly in front of the TV so I can avoid knocking into it.
