HTC Vive

I'm afraid they didn't Bosh. I'm in the dark as much as you. If I've taken some time off work and don't get it, I'll be so disappointed. The last time that happened was when I got the day one release Xbox One.

I have Monday 11th off for my release day - well technically it's the Saturday 9th when OCUK deliver my new PC - but I wanted a day of gaming and messing anyway from the missus and work and kid! The only thing that is allowed to bother me is the cat...

...that being said, I cannot wait for my HTC Vive. I was a Rift man, had both the dev versions but when I ran the Rift spec demo and it basically said "no way in hell" for my PC, I thought "sod that" VR can go and hang itself.

I then saw the VR PC's on this site ( yeah going to take me a long time to pay back on the CC ), but looking at some of the threads here got me looking at the HTC.

After plenty of independant research it was clear although a new PC would be required - on day zero when both are new in the market, the HTC offers so much more so thought waht the hell... :)

...it's at this point I must THANK THIS FORUM for the unbiased views of many that helped make a balanced choice for myself.

Looks like a few people on Reddit in the US have received their shipping confirmations, ETA's vary between Tuesday and Wednesday so far so hopefully we should be shouldn't have too much of a wait.

Ill be setting this up in me garage as my rooms are to small and no way would my girlfriend allow it in the lounge. Bit annoying but my house is built on top of the garage and is massive.

After plenty of consideration and youtube watching I've just gone and preordered the Vive.

I was planning on sitting out the first gen in part because of the resolution and the spec of my PC. But now I realise the resolution is sufficient and it would be completely masochistic to wait on the sidelines for a couple of years with all sorts of cool stuff coming out. My justification is that spread out over those two years the Vive and PC upgrade is still a pretty cheap hobby.

Really impressed with the feedback on the lighthouse tracking. They've nailed it! It's what I naively thought the wii controllers would do when they were first announced way back in 2005. But it's legit this time. So now to disassemble a bed and clear some space...

Rather than asking her permission, just let her try things like tilt brush herself and she will probably be all for setting it up indoors

I'm getting two lighting stands so I can quickly place mine in the lounge, so my GF can at least try it without it being a permanent feature in there, until she has at least given it a go a few times. At the moment she's dead set against it being used in there.

If you have issues with your bank preventing the money being taken, check your emails. HTC just informed me they couldn't take payment, and to contact them once I have authorised it with the bank (which I have done).

Fingers crossed but this seems to still at least be progressing... Unlike oculus!

Gah FU HTC:

Thank you for ordering from HTC. At your request, or at the request of the fulfiller and/or the manufacturer, the following was canceled from your order.

I spoke to my bank this morning, they haven't had a second charge attempt since the failed one yesterday :(

:( :( :(

OMFG, First Direct may have screwed me on this

I called them, pre-advised of the incoming payment. Kind of expected their fraud detection to kick in as it does on anything I actually want to buy. HTC attempted 1st time on 1st at midnight, FD should have called me but didnt, HTC attempted payment again last night and the second attempt was declined

I get an email at 01:42 this morning that the payment attempt failed, so this morning I'm on the phone to FD for 20 minutes going through their security hoops yet again. While I'm on the phone I get an email around 9:04 saying HTC have cancelled my vive

On hold to HTC at the moment as I type this

I'm in the same boat! :(

My time line:

1/4 - 00:30 - HTC try to take payment, fails. Receive text from Halifax, asking if I can authorise this, reply yes and get confirmation that it will be allowed. No sign of payment attempted again this day.

2/4 - Get email that payment has failed from HTC, advising me to authorise it and then they will try again when I have contacted them. (they also suggest paypal as alternative payment method). But you need to get through to their support first to let them know whats up. Fine, but it opens at 9am. I wait.... and try to get through. Then at 09:09 I get an email from HTC saying my order has been cancelled!!!!!

Distressing. I've sent an email to them since their chat support is still unavailable, and am stuck on the phone.

I'm sure this can be rectified because it doesn't seem like the system should work like this... I'm hopeful HTC will make it up to customers and get them out for next week.

Errr I called the general HTC line (‎0845 890 0079), maybe on hold for ten minutes, but then had to be transferred to a different number for the Vive... been on hold for maybe 20-30 mins now.

Don't have the direct number for the Vive team sorry.

Just been passed on to the HTC Vive hold line, spoke briefly with a standard HTC guy who said that they are receiving a huge amount of calls and that it might be better to call back later.. not sure if that's a good sign for them being pressured to meet the original pre-orders or not
