HTC Vive

Well I upgraded the PC today. i7 6700 (not into overclocking so I didn't get the K) 16Gb of ram. I just need the pascal to come out and replace the R290X. Failing that I'll get a 980Ti until it does. I got my email yesterday, which was useless as it doesn't tell me when the thing will be shipped. I'll need to get a new case as the X61 Kraken doesn't fit into my CM 690 II. Trying to decide the the Lian Li PC 08 is worth the extra cash over the Corsair 540 Carbide. Decisions, decisions.

The mail was just the system moving everyone from pre-order to open-order state. Your estimated ship date won't have changed. If you were in the first batch, you'll have it on the 5th. Anything after the 1st batch we have no idea yet.

They're just teasing us now with the email updates!
Email updating my order as being processed but not shipped of course.

That is generally how a product launch works, yes. It's a figure of speech, they will have been allocated, but they don't get shipping labels until payment is taken.
 
I remember either HTC or Oculus recommended not to do that, as it'll end up forming the foam to the glass head, rather than your own and you could end up with light bleed around the edges.

I've got enough soft cloths here from glasses that I'll just use if I need to wipe the lenses down.

I'm sure they'll do (head stand) for resting it on the desk or between sessions but longer I'll probably just sit it in the HMD retail shipping box under my desk where I've got a glass shelf.

I think you'll find the difference in visual quality is relatively tiny and small enough not to be a valid factor in your purchasing decision!

I would say it would depend on your intended usage though. If you don't want roomscale, although the only reason why I would imagine is lack of space, and if you wanted to enjoy more simulation type experiences, that extra clarity could be quite a good reason to go for the Rift, in addition to the £200 saving.
