Huawei mate 10

I was first drawn to Huawei with my Nexus 6P and I love it.
To me, it looks like the Mate 10 Pro is everything the Pixel 2 XL should have been. Pretty certain I'll get one when it's available.

Phones are really good and never slow down. However their updates are really slow so if you value keeping your phone up to date with the latest security patches stay clear.

Some people have an intense disliking of EMUI. I personally don't think it's too bad.

I need to have a play with one. Doesn't look like it has stereo speakers either which is pretty important to me as I watch a lot of you tube on the phone (I might have to forgo that though as I'm not paying the Pixel 2XL prices and that the other phone I like).

The Pro is quite nice but it needs more to differentiate itself. If it had the complete package I. E. sd slot, headphone jack and a good one at that , cleaner UI, faster updates etc it might have stood a chance.

For me it has too many omissions.

It was fairly interesting to be fair, I watched most of it. The comparisons with speed tests on photo recognition made the processor out to be a bit of a beast 2s against 5s for the iPhone 8 and 100s for the Note 8.

Another odd thing is that the pro comes with 1080p Amoled display while the normal one is QHD but not Amoled and also has a headphone jack(although this is of no interest personally).

Compared to the drivel during the Pixel 2 announcement, I found it to be straight to the point with images, facts and comparisons.

I'd rather listen to a Chinese guy speaking his best English than an American showing us how you can include monsters in your images.

I'm guess 18:9 1440p AMOLED's are hard to come by at the moment. Samsung using them all for themselves.

Although my OnePlus 5 has the same ppi AMOLED as Pro and it's looks sharp enough. However at this premium price I'd want QHD+

Also what is it with Huawei and a secondary monochrome sensor. Their overall picture performance is usually bettered by Samsung and Google even with a single cam setup. Give us a zoom or even better, a wide angle Secondary cam.

Seems like the Mate 10 would be the one to get. Better resolution screen, headphone jack and SD card slot. Can't see the point in getting the pro at all.

Was considering this before I got my Note 8. Dual F1.6 lenses sound nice but a bit miffed at the bucking of the trend regarding the +/pro model usually having the better spec.

4000maH - hhhhmmmm :)

The UK/US markets only get the Pro, and whilst the Pro looks nicer, is better in the hands (ladies....), the non Pro has a higher res screen, SD slot and a headphone jack!

Nevertheless, the machine learning SoC in these phones are insane. Check this video out showing off just how much of a staggering difference a dedicated AI chip makes compared to flagships that don't have one:

It's flipping faster than the even Apple's latest machine learning chip!

Some will ask what the point of this is, well it's a massive point, I can't stress that enough. In AR situations, you could point to an image or piece of text and have the text translated or image recognised with virtually zero delay, because machine learning has already built up a big database of everything it has previously encountered and knows what it is seeing.

For cameras this also means the AI chip can see what is in the frame and adjust exposure to bring out the best for every object if it isn't adequately exposed.

I think this year's Q4 phones are the starting point of something pretty big in the phone arena, and this is the kind of generation bump I have been looking for.

As others have said they are painfully slow with updates

They've said they aim to address that though with new flagships so maybe that will no longer be a problem

I'm going to buck the trend and say that irregardless of the slightly lower display resolution, I prefer the Pro. Moving the fingerprint sensor to the front was the biggest downside of my P10 Plus compared to my P9, and gaining the 18:9 display aspect ratio is worth it for the aesthetics, even if it does mean a slight drop in PPI (the display and phone are physically slimmer, so it's not as bad as it seems).

The Pro looks nicer, but it's an SE in terms of specs vs the no Pro. It's basically a 320D M Sport on the outside, but SE on the inside :/

Or every S-Line Audi :D

Maybe there will a mid term upgrade with the screen being changed to QHD once availability becomes better (if that was the issue).
