Huawei p30

To whom it may concern, I honestly wouldn’t worry about the supposed drop in sound quality with Bluetooth. I use some Anker Soundsurge’s and they were only 20 quid and sound easily as good as any other 20 quid wired headphones I’ve had. Additionally, I use my Pixel 2 XL and B&W P7 Wireless headphones as a portable hifi and the sound quality is stunning, I actually prefer those to my wired Beyerdynamics powered out of a dedicated headphone amp! I think the difference exists, but is hugely exaggerated by most of the interne; in fact, I would suggest the difference is tiny, and the quality of the phones themselves is far more important than the method of connection.

Yep the B&W P7s are great wireless headphones. Lovely bass and eq really well.

Early days yet, but initial impressions are good.

Fingerprint scanner is a little slower than the p10 plus, but seems very accurate. Finger placement takes some getting used to.

Haven't had much chance to test the camera yet.

Battery seems great. 53% left with 19 hours off charge and 4.5 hours screen on time.

I vaguely remember seeing somewhere when they first appeared that the in screen fingerprint scanners weren't considered secure enough to be used with G Pay or banking apps did Google ever actually block phones with them from using the fingerprint scanner for those sort of log ins?

Tempted by this phone but the software always puts me off. I just don't know if I could learn to live with it. I mean, I can replace the launcher etc, but if the phone is buggy like reviews are saying (and closes apps aggressively to save battery) I'd just find that really annoying.

NatWest app works fine with the FPS on my mate 20 pro

I hope curved screens stop being a thing. No worthwhile benefits to them in my opinion!

I am having no problems with software so far, however it is early days as I had to exchange mine due to a defect out of the box. Probably not quite as nice as Samsung, but no issues for me that would put me off the phone. That may change later down the line of course.

Fingerprint reader works with the usual apps including HSBC for me.

Yeah, the fingerprint scanner is compatible with all my financial apps. What I will say though is I'm finding it a tad hit and miss, no way near as bad as the Nokia 9's but still a long way behind more traditional ones.

I'm finding the fingerprint scanner pretty good. It does seem to struggle if your thumb/finger or the screen is a little dirty though. Definitely not as good as the capacitive one on my previous P10 Plus, but I don't have any frustration with it.

Night mode on this phone is pure witchcraft.

It somehow manages to see more than my eyes can! Haha

I'm finding the battery very impressive on this device so far

I'm only just starting to get a proper play with the phone after having it since Saturday but fingerprint scanner is working well at the moment. There is a tiny delay compared to capacity sensor but perfectly workable and I'm sure I won't notice it after little use.

I'm honestly blown away by the night shots, it literally looks like night and day between what my eye sees and photos I'm getting. I'm actually struggling to get a photo that looks like night :p

Took a handheld photo of the moon at x50 like in those videos and it does actually work, even with my hand shakes. Think I'll order a cheap phone mount for my camera tripod just to see what kind of photos it can pull off with the night sky.

It does look beautiful in Aurora Blue but does the phone feel quite hollow when you tap on the back, especially the lower portion?

Also so far I seem to have one niggle/bug with it, the double tap of the volume button to get a photo barely seem to work and mostly only in portrait mode, am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: Actually yeah, double tap volume button only seems to work in portrait mode, unless it's just my phone?

The x50 zoom is impressive. Not the greatest quality, but impressive that it can do it. I'd be curious how it'll look using a phone mount.

Yeah only in portrait mode for me it seems. Guessing a software update will sort that.

I've not noticed the hollow feel, but I've had a case on since having it. Also in Aurora and it does look great!

How are people finding the main camera and in your normal daylight conditions?

I've not had a chance to play with the camera properly yet. Maybe a tad over sharpened from very early experience with it. What are you thinking?

I did stick it into a Spigen just about straight away as well so guess looks don't matter to us :p

If I'm honest, I'm actually verging on disappointed at the moment with the camera in normal conditions. There is considerable over sharpening going on which was very exposed while out on a hike yesterday (leaves on the ground, muddy paths, bare branches, etc) and it seems the camera sensor was getting plain confused in some situations with lighting. Certain images would come out nuclear holocaust cold when conditions were the opposite and others would come out overly warm.

AI can be quite unpredictable and oversaturated with greens, I've actually found myself preferring the colours on the ultra wide camera in a lot of scenarios.

I took quite a few images side by side with my S7 Edge that's now back from repair so I'll post them later for people to have a look at to see what they think. Also going for a day trip now so there will be a bigger mixture of architecture, people, indoors, sea, etc to see how it copes with that.

Other complaint so far has been the screen, I'm coming from 5 years of Samsung AMOLED and I just can't get the colours to where I like them on this. Everything just seems that little bit muted compared to the S7 Edge and my sister's Note 9 and colours just don't pop like they do on those. I do have it on vivid and tried playing with the colour temperature wheel but I think it's just something I'll have to learn to live with.
