Right, i got a lettter from huddersfield uni saying;

"Having reviewed your application, I am pleased to be able to offer you a place for Spet 2007 and you will recieve formal notice through UCAS soon."

Is this an unconditional offer? no other mention about it in the letter, other than theres an open day I can attend if I want too..

Also, whats the uni/course like? I'll be going to the open day but wondered if anyone is doing the course in question, or attending hudders uni? :)

Anyway, UCAS in general, I log into the tracker thing quite abit, as I've had 3 of my 4 uni's contact me offering places, and the UCAS thing hasn't updated since 15 dec o6, a day after it had been processed.
Erm? :/

Help.

May as well be an unconditional offer.

Game Design? I hope you enjoy designing the physics of flipping burgers, you're going to be doing a lot more of it with that expensive piece of paper.

My ones from staffs/teeside go into more information though, interviews/portfolio work, explain the process more indepth.

Also
If your just going to troll, dont bother?

Call it trolling if you like. If you want a job, don't waste 3 years of your life with that.

Not to **** off OP even more, but why do you think its worthless? It would seem more suitable than say CS if he wanted to go work for a game designer?

No swearing

Gilly

Have you done this specific course? How do you know where it takes you? Have you spoken to the lectures at uni and been guided through industry contacts who have ties with the uni to secure placements with students?

:/

It's too specific - A CS degree would look a lot more attractive in the same. Proven and in demand, somewhat...

These degrees sound phenomenal I'm sure, but job prospects are grim. Do we really need a University churning out ~200 "Game Design" students a year? I doubt it.

Rolls off the tongue in the same sentence as "Polytechnic"

Oh yes. I'll believe the University and Prospectus. The people trying to -sell- the course to you.

While I'm at it, I'll go to the nearest Ford dealership and ask the the salesperson with the worst suit how amazing his Mondeo's with over 100k miles are.

Why doesn't he just kick me in the stomach while I'm at it. He thinks it's best!

I'm afraid I agree with ninja.

I believe in doing a degree that isn't too specific. A degree in Comp Sci will be a lot more versitile and recognised should your Game Desgin job dream not come true.

I hate computer science though?

ok given it might not be "the best allround choice", but I'm not going to do something for the rest of my life that i REALLY dislike. I'll do something I love, even if it doesn't pay as much, or if its a bit harder to get into.

I'll be different, I'll be happy with what I do. Not like half the country these days.

Now, I don't care why its a **** course or whatever, I'm more interested in my original questions of ucas not updating and what the course is like to people who have first hand experience of it.

Dude just do what you want to do, if you don't enjoy the subject you will crash and burn no doubt about it. Any degree is better than no degree.

The work opportunities are slim ofcourse, but as are most positions in IT other than helpdesk crap.

Just go with what you want to do, where you want to do it and stop feeding the trolls.

EDIT: When i was using UCAS last year it was crap then! I would give the university a ring mate or giev ucas a coulpe of days, it did take a while for my offers to pop up.

I hope you've checked out the town and university first, because i went there for a while and thought it was awful......the town is basically a station for people who didnt get into Leeds, it was just terrible....

Computer science isn't actually all that relevant to computer game design though. Game design is mostly an artistic discipline and CS is technical. For game programming CS would be better. It seems to me that game design degrees aren't very well respected, but I'm not sure what other degrees are relevent to game design.

You should be banned for being a trolling muppet. Please kindly go back to where you came from and come back where you have something more constructive to say. Your a total idiot.

CS is rubbish. I know, i dropped out of it last year. Its DULL DULL DULL. What does Games Design/Technology give you? 3 years in which to build up a portfolio of work that says 'im more interesting than those losers doing CS who will end up either
a) As a network admin
or
b) Programming dull dull bespoke software.

To the OP i have always found UCAS to be a bit pants at updating, so dont worry. Every entry you applied for must make their reply so you only need to worry if term is starting and you havnt seen anything
