Huel: The Future of Food ..

Kinda hard to carry ice cubes around with you or have them at work :p

At home I don't use Huel as I cook food - and I only use Huel a couple of times a week so it's no biggie, and just do 2 sittings.

Back to using Huel or more recently MyProtein whole fuel. To be fair I do have a sweet tooth so I prefer the taste of the whole fuel but either does the job. Have a bag of each on the go so don't get bored of one or the other.

Basically a meal replacement when at work to stop me from buying junk from the burger van when it comes around :)

It is unfortunate that Huel sounds like Gruel, bit of a marketing gaff there me thinks :D

I would buy Huel if they came out with a premium non vegan version with a few tweaks:-

1. Higher quality proteins maybe 80% Casein 20% Whey Isolate.
2. D3 instead of D2, (D3 as cholecalciferol)
3. Vitamin A as as beta carotene, acetate
4. Vitamin E as d-alpha tocopherol succinate
5. Vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin
6. Remove Carrageenan
7. Lower the Iron content, looks to much once you scale it up.

I take 5000IUs of vit D3 anyway in the winter.
All the other vitamins I get from my diet - but how would that make it non Vegan?

It needs more Omega 3s and higher concentration of EPA and DHA ratios

It's good that they have phytonutrients but you just can't beat a nice fresh salad or broccoli! :D

I'm leaving it until Monday to see if Whole Fuel settles down with me, but cutting the 21 day experiment short if it still misbehaves.

I think D3 (Cholecalciferol) is made from Lanolin, not sure what vegan's can and can't stomach...

I got some Whole Fuel in the MP sale for the days/nights I'm on shift over the next 4 weeks, got 1kg of the vanilla and 1kg of the chocolate so if it's gross it doesn't matter too much as it's only 10 servings apiece. Doing an aggressive 4 week mini cut and while I prep food that's mainly for when I'm on my lunch hour and the rest of the time I need something that adheres to work etiquette for eating at your desk, plus I suppose I'm just curious about the whole 'soylent' thing and how filling it'll be compared to other stuff. We'll see how it fares...

So my Reflex arrived yesterday. I have to say that while it tastes nice, the consistency is more like a traditional protein shake. There is no nasty after-taste, so in and of itself, it's OK.

It isn't anywhere close as filling as Huel though. I'll use what I've bought, but I'll stick to Huel.

Interesting, did you try less water with the reflex for a thicker shake? I have same Huel samples coming tomorrow so will also compare.

Out of interest how many grams of Huel do you use at a time?

The Reflex scoop is 60G and I used 3 with 400-500ml of water. It was thick but very smooth, the Huel shakes are rough by comparison due to the oats. Reflex uses oat flour rather than the coarser variety.

Maybe add some coarser oats into the reflex? This should help with feeling fuller for longer as well.
