Huge Indycar crash

RIP.

The event just seems so stupid at how easy it was for the crash to accumulate!

I remember being shocked at Webber at Valencia in 2010 watching the Grand Prix, then being even more shocked he got out of the car. I know they've made some great improvements to racing safety in general, but 34 cars at that speed in one and a half miles... These events are ridiculous...

I'm amazed Will Power got through that unscathed, his onboard video is scary stuff. Backwards through flames.

RIP Wheldon.

Yep, it looked like he got hit in the head from the wheel.

What car was Wheldons I can't work it out from the videos as I don't follow it so no idea who is who.

RIP

Trying to work that out myself, was very erie watching that video and seeing they were onboard with Wheldon literally a second before he was killed.

Think he was either the one who flew over the top of a car and went airborne into the fence or was the car which had the car go over the top of his.

Can see why he died, looks like the front of his helmet has been grinding on the tarmac from that photo.

I don't follow Indy at all but apparently this was the last race for that chassis as the new safer one was due to start next season which Wheldon himself had been testing. Some of the features could well have prevented this fatality sadly :(

You can see where the top of the car smacked into the concrete wall. The damage done to the rollbar, you can only imagine what damage that impact had on him. Killed instantly, no crash helmet would save you from an impact like that.

Such a shame as he was my fav indy driver, was surprised as to why he never had a drive this season.
