Hungarian Grand Prix 2014, Hungaroring Race - 11/19

Stewards must have been asleep when Buttons pit stop happened that's an unsafe release 99 times out of 100.

He pulled alongside and behind the Toro Rosso, whose driver didn't appear to brake, then backed off when he realised the Toro Rosso would have to turn into his pits.

There were two others racing each other down and out of the pits under the safety car, which I bet Charlie wasn't entirely happy about.

Yes I saw that as well. Ted in his notebook said Charlie isn't keen on giving out unsafe release pens during safety car pit stops.

Which is a somewhat odd attitude considering it's basically a safety issue the rule is in place at all so does that make it ok to potentially run someone over in the pit lane as long as it's under a safety car period and the pits are busy? :p

Agree. If it's a penalty under normal racing conditions it should be a penalty all of the time.

Reason being you've got everyone pitting at once, so it's easy to release someone into the chaos when you thought there was a gap.

I'm not saying it's OK, but that's the reasoning.

So long as there's enough room for 2 cars and the drivers are aware of each other (as they were today), there isn't a problem anyway.

Cracking race. Brilliant drives by the guys on the Podium there. Especially enjoyed both Hamilton and Ricciardo showing up their teammates!

Can I just ask one question - when Sebastian Vettel was told to hold station behind Webber (Multi 21) he didn't ... and people on here were frothing at the mouth in rage as to how he had the audacity to defy team orders ... fast forward a season or so, Lewis Hamilton defies team orders and we are all celebrating it.

How so? :D

Vettel is unlikable, Hamilton isn't, or less so.

Lewis was in the lead vimto wasn't and Lewis would have lost to much time. Simples really. Come back with better Lewis bashing posts.

Fantastic race, not a RBR fan but very happy Ric won.

Great drive by Hamilton to finish 3rd after starting from the pit and recovering after a spin.

Rosberg was poor after the SC, sure he was quick before it but isn't he always in clear air. Not so smug this week, excellent.

Edit - Forgot Alonso, great drive by him.

Because Webber had done the same for Vettel before.

But in absence of that, no, team orders like that shouldn't exist.

Also a lot of people gave credit to Vettel for defying it because they thought it was stupid. Vettel overtook Webber as part of racing, Rosberg was failing to do so even with authorisation to do so.

Also, as mentioned Lewis was in the lead. Alonso/Massa was a similar situation which was heavily criticised.

I have lost massive respect for Mercedes after today. My problem with the Mercedes radio message to Hamilton, telling him to let Rosberg through [because he's on a different strategy] is that the team knew these drivers were racing for finishing position, regardless of the fact that Rosberg had another pitstop to come. So they were, in effect, attempting to directly influence the race result in favour of Rosberg, rather than let those drivers race. It is becoming more and more obvious that Mercedes want their German driver to win the championship.

I also find this quite funny:
Nico Rosberg -
"I would prefer to be out there battling with Lewis. That would give me the maximum adrenaline rush. Of course I am very, very happy but it was not a gloves-off battle with Lewis and it takes away a little bit of the happiness.

So in reality his adrenaline rush was getting team orders to pass Hamilton and now wanting an internal meeting on why Lewis did not move over?

I am glad that the next few circuits are Hamilton circuits, I just hope he doesn't get any more unreliability.

rewind back Vettel had the pace to get past mark without Mark giving way.

Nico Diddnt.

Vettel did not obey and he did exactly what Nico should have which was cruise up to Lewis and put him under pressure. There is then a good case for letting Nico go.

Nico could not get near Lewis really and expected to be gifted a pass. Which was not happening.

This!

Toto interview after the race was cringeworthy, admitting to asking Lewis to move over twice but then saying they were not more vocal about it because of his reliability problems? The fact they asked him to move over shows so much guilt.

Because Webber obeyed team orders when he was asked to do it for Vettel, when Vettel was asked to do it he gave the middle to his team and team mate.

Also i believe Webber turned his engine down so he had no chance of holding Vettel off, Vettel didn't turn his engine down i believe and over took him.

Great race. I can't believe Rosberg was getting stroppy over Hamilton not moving over when he couldn't even keep him in DRS range. No way Lewis can let him past from that far back.

I think Mercedes dropped the ball on not putting Lewis on the two stint strategy too though. He could have won this race.

If Nico had managed to get close enough to overtake and Hamilton has refused to let him past I would have called that bad form when Nico isn't even managing to keep his car in DRS range, he's not faster and can't expect his teammate to give up that much time to let him past.
