HUNGARORING - BUDAPEST - HUNGARY Grand Prix 2009 - Race 10/17

What a surprise....
Renault to race in Valencia after having their ban turned to a reprimand and a $50k fine.

Wow. What a deterrent....

Although

It also argued that the only people who knew about the error were the mechanics working on that wheel, and that they were unable to inform any team personnel on the pitwall to warn Alonso before the wheel detached.

Did it come off as he exited the pitlane then?

Alonso would probably have just known the car was faultly, but probably had no idea what the exact problem was. He would have been straigh on the radio, and told the team.

The team would have presumably known by that point what had happened, however, he was already out on track.

I think that they should have just had an exclusion from contructors points for a race or two.

Yep. Me too.

With the way F1 is right now, we need all its top drivers participating and putting on a show, especially the way the Valencia GP was hyped up for MS's return, which wont materialise now.

Do you guys not reckon that now the affect of his announced return has been seen, once badoer has had a couple of races, and not mounted a championship challenge. The last race of the season (possibly once the championship winner has already been decided) there is a chance they will wheel schumi out again for bumper publicity/ticket sales?

I am considering putting a bet on schumi getting a points finish this season.

I cant see that happening at all - if it was ever going to happen Ferrari / MS wouldnt have put a line under it so firmly a week ago (or whenever it was).

They had one major shot at it, and it didnt work - I cant see them trying it again

Im glad Alonso is racing (be it Spain or anywhere else) - but the fine was completely pointless, absolutely meaningless given the money they generate. Without doubt Alonso didnt deserve to be penalised, he couldnt have done anything at all - but Im sorrry I still think Renault knew as a team how bad it was before Alonso was out on track (and if the wheel guy didnt know then he should be severely reprimanded imo)

Im sure all parts of the pit crew have mics and headphones below their helmet (yes I know they raise their arm rtc to say "all done") , I find it VERY hard to believe the team didnt know before he exitied the pitlane, it just makes no sense that the wheelguy didnt say something over the radio / collar someone who had a radio to the pitwall immediately after Alonso pulled out - serious deriliction of duty at the very least

I thought the wheelman didn't raise his hand to say it was ready to go but they released the car anyway, so maybe partly the lollipop mans fault?
