Hurricane - Irma

Y

You would, others will not.

Simple as that.

Personally I would go with the beer.

That's not brave, its stupid. There is a mandatory evacuation where he is and he choose beer.

I would go as far as that's irresponsible and crazy.

Regarding the "Nuclear Hurricane" debate, I suspect it was just a term used to get people to sit up and take notice because they don't want people in the area to just go "meh another storm, it'll blow over".

Our head office and primary data centre in Miami are both being closed, all systems shut down (so the international offices won't be able to do anything either), and hoping for the best. Monday sure will be interesting!

Looks like Disney World is closing down for Sunday and Monday, with plans to re-open on Tuesday. This marks the fifth time the park has ever been shut down since its opening. Hopefully there will still be a theme park left to re-open...

We're leaving all our systems up, we're assured by the DC provider that they can survive this... we'll see.. I expect some interruption

Data centre was built to withstand a Cat 4, so it really depends on how hard it hits, but it is better to shut the systems down intentionally than risk them getting taken out (and the extra hassle that could cause).

Yeah I agree and I did suggest that to the powers that be , but apparently it would seem they know better... I hope I don't have to write that "I told you so" email ... (although that would be slightly satisfying)

This usually goes - "why didn't you have a backup solution in place?", "you were too cheap to pay for it" and back and forth until you are replaced with someone who'll just say yes to everything.

I'm sat in my holiday apartment in Orlando drinking bottles of Modelo and watching South Park.

Everywhere is closed now, it's eerily quiet and we haven't really felt like a hurricane was coming until today.

The weather has been glorious all week, we have had blazing sunshine and the regular summer showers at noon but today has been different. It has been cloudy and windy all day. The Florida Keys are seeing tropical storm conditions and the hurricane is still really a day away.

We are all set for whatever happens, we have plenty of food and water but I'm really hoping we don't lose power so I can cook food for the kids. They don't really understand how powerful this is going to be.

Current models show the hurricane making landfall around the Charlotte area tomorrow evening and moving north towards Tampa. Unfortunately, for Florida anyway, it did not make landfall in Cuba today so the eye has not been disrupted and will continue to strengthen in the warm waters as it approaches the Florida peninsula

I'd pretty much bank on losing power at some point - cook stuff in advance or whatever where possible. The US grid generally doesn't seem as robust as the UK and they seem to be quite eager to turn it off in a disaster - probably to avoid getting sued.

we always lose power when it gets windy, never mind hurricane weather lol.

Expect similar scenes to these.

I can't expect you not lose power.

Looks like its projected to intensify again as it makes the turn into Florida but might lose some of that again by the time its turned in proper. The Arpege model which is usually one of the more accurate is looking really grim.

Power will go down, which sucks as it's hot and humid.

Getting blustery here, beginning to feel it, outside feels weird.

Will update at times tomorrow

Well the wall has already started to rebuild and with the really warm waters all around the coast of Florida and pressure dropping so low already it's looking like it'll be pretty strong when it lands later on.

Watching some of the streams from Key West the sea has risen a fair bit already as well.
