Hurricane - Irma

Power will go down, which sucks as it's hot and humid.

Getting blustery here, beginning to feel it, outside feels weird.

Will update at times tomorrow

stay safe, but i would have booked a hotel in northern Georgia for a week and taken my family there after seeing what the storm has already done.

A member on another forum is currently on holiday in Cape Coral, (west side of Florida) and right on the projected point where Irma makes landfall and he is staying put with wine and beer!

Seriously, what goes through their head to make the decision to stay when you don't have to? When you have no property or elderly or disable to look after...you get the hell out.

Tourists who have never been exposed to life or death weather before.

Yeah all those innocent people asked to be born there too.......

What a world we live in, wishing destruction and harm on others. :(
Yes nothing to do with most the people down there seeing climate change as liberal conspiracy and their leader pulling out of the Paris Accord which when push comes to shove will allow poorer nations to wriggle out of their commitments, leading to more hurricanes, floods...... deaths worldwide. All in the name of $$. No correlation here at all. Wait is this not the right time to speak of this? How silly of me.

*most*

Even if it is most, it's still a harsh comment. I doubt it's most mind.

Kind of got no sympathy for the yanks, one of the biggest polluters along with china, pay back time i think.

** No personal insults - EVH **
Even if 100% of those to be affected did share those views, which they don't, are you wishing destruction on them because of your own views? How very Daily Mail reader of you.

I have family who live there, who are from the UK. They, along with the rest of the state and the islands in the Caribbean, have not asked for this, yet you have some vendetta against them because of your political and/or cultural views.
** and again.. **

Just as an aside.

The thing that puzzled me was the aerial photographs of lines of traffic evacuating the danger area on the freeways, but only using one carriageway with the other one almost empty.

While I appreciate that there will be a need for limited traffic to travel the other way into the zone. It seems nuts not to have a system in place that maximises highway capacity in these sorts of situation by using both carriageways (With perhaps one lane coned off for inward traffic say) :/

The 2nd map in the below link shows how few people believe climate change will affect them personally, despite living in Florida. The 1st map does contradict this somewhat though, so is it "most"? I don't know, 50/50 might be a better guess?

Florida also banned the term climate change from any communique:

I don't agree with the guy that it's "payback" and I don't wish death on anyone but terms like karma should be expected. Do the people denouncing climate change care about the future famines, floods, other catastrophes that will cause deaths worldwide? Ecosystems ruined, hell why don't we bring up the subject on the speculation of the gulf stream shutting down? It hasn't happened yet so I guess we should ignore all this. I don't even know what to say, it blows my mind. Of course there are plenty of people in southern states who know man-made climate change is real but what is one supposed to do? If India had similar % views and a government who didn't believe in climate change, would the people say "what about the x% of Indians who know climate change is real?"

Any chance of it picking up strength in the gulf and heading north? Looks like a lucky escape for Floridians going through that gap!

I'd never go blaming a natural disaster on anyone, who could potentially be injured or worse. Joe public in Florida will contribute as much to climate change as most people in America. I don't get the point that's being made.

No we shouldn't be ignoring it, but blaming it on people who can very barely control it? No.

I despair at the current state of all media.

Its as if all the millennials are in charge and they do need write utter crap to justify there pointless positions.

Ok different topic but this hurricane coverage is diabolical at best.

GD is much better (OMG Did i just write that).

They do that in LA and MS. The interstates and major trunk roads have crossovers built in every so often.
