Hurricane - Irma

I think it is because it is the strongest hurricane recorded in history that substantiate that claim.

It's not just another hurricane, it is the biggest ever. What do you need to see? another biggest one ever next weekend, and the another biggest one ever after that?

Currently on track to be the biggest in recorded human history but that is only a small period in earths time line so Im yet to be convinced by this whole global warming is to blame. Look into the current research linking them to Sun spot activity as that has scientific data but again we can only get data over a small time period.

Well, the people who make these claims, or conclusions have studied data recorded as far back as they can. They are experts in all manner of speak. They went to school, universities, done research and then come to this conclusion.

I, and you sitting in my armchair, arguing the opposite because…..I don't believe it? Unless of course you too have a PHD in the same area as these scientists and have gone through the same amount of background studies and research over the decades? Or do you just come to the conclusion that Climate Change is fake because you read it on the internet?

That's how I and why I believe it.

Like the Nuclear one?

You blame climate change then? These hurricanes have existed there for millions of years, we have only been recording hurricanes in that area since 1851, so the circa 165 years worth of records is a very very small fraction of how long hurricanes have existed in the Florida area, it maybe the biggest since 1851, but the biggest ever, not a chance.

But ignore all that, blame it on climate change just because of a big hurricane, laughable.

Read my post above.

So, you blame co-incidence or do you blame god? Or ISIS?

So, do you have a PHD in this area or have you base on your conclusion because "the earth existed millions of years" and you concluded this because of your NO qualification, no experience and just read it off the internet?

So…PHD or armchair PHD?

I'm not arguing against climate change, but it is probably worth noting that by ever or recorded history they are really only likely to be talking about the last 50-60 years that they have repeatable satellite data.

They have recorded these events since 1851, thats all, i don't need a PHD to question the claim it is the biggest EVER as you say since hurricanes have existed for a very very long time.

So the biggest EVER? No chance.

e: I didn't read anything off the internet, concluding that hurricanes have existed for millions of years in that area doesn't need a PHD also, just common sense.

I don't think it is like a DIRECT result of it, but it sure doesn't help. The cause of hurricane in the Atlantic comes from west of Africa where the hot air of the desert meet the cold air of the ocean.

Warmer earth = higher temperature = stronger winds.

p.s. I prefaced (covered my ass) my post with recorded. I never said ever as in since time begun.

No, just an armchair and common sense, which you lack if you claim this hurricane is a result of climate change because it is the biggest EVER, like you keep saying.

Difference is I am not saying they are wrong its just im not 100% convinced right now and want to look at what other scientist are saying rather than the ones the media are allowing us to hear due to them having the same ideology. Just research David Bellamy and how the BBC etc treated him for having doubts about global warming. Sorry im not a sheep.

Common sense suggest to you that there is no Climate change and global warming because you are sitting in an armchair? And that hundreds and thousands of scientist who have dedicated their lives into this field are wrong?

Right…..

And now you choose to put words in my mouth? Where have i said any of that?

I do think climate change is a problem, but it didn't create the biggest hurricane ever.

The counter argument is, what is wrong for believing it?

As in, what is wrong trying to limit our CO2 production? What ACTUAL harm is there? What damage can you do to the planet by lowering CO2 emissions?

2 posts above yours I have already answer it.

Im all for it if it if we do it right but at the moment all its doing is putting another tax on the poorest people in the developed world while the rich make money out of it. Deforestation is a big problem and needs to be addressed.

I live and work in southampton and the council want to bring in a congestion charge due to us having bad air quality but as I work in the docks I know most of the pollution is coming from the cargo and cruise ships but they wont tax the companies in fear that they will move to another port. This is why we need politicians who are not affraid to go up against the big companies on these issues but currently its joe public who get hit.

Also ABP who own the docks will not put the power points so ships do not need to run their engines while moored up but no one seems to care.

Well, that is a totally different question in how government and society implement that change. It doesn't stop us trying to lower CO2 output.

Well if you believe this is the biggest hurricane since records began in 1851 because of climate change then that must mean it is the biggest for millions of years, because climate change didn't exist before 1851 because there was no pollution to cause climate change.

So if you believe it is climate change that is at fault then yes you must be correct in saying that this hurricane is the biggest in millions of years not just since 1851.

Climate change my arse.

e: In millions of years of history i would bet there has been a hurricane of this size many times, obviously we don't have evidence, but to blame this one on climate change is a joke.

What exactly are you trying to argue?

You admit climate change is a problem. You admit that it is the biggest hurricane ever recorded.
