to be fair its a lovely long straight hill, i always said to myself id return one day and thunder up it in my own car, dont think ill bother now :p

Are you talking about Penglais Hill? Because i'm SURE i could do a 0-60 dash in about 6 seconds there!

Yeah thats Penglais Hill. I really want to burn it down there one day, could easily top out at max speed going down there. Then again i could die in a ball of flames, i think i'll give it a miss for now....

Its the same on Wigan Road, its the main road to the M6 its a very wide road and no schools on it and its safe doing 40mph.

Definately, and the bus lane is completely pointless :p

Putting this thread another way, had (God forbid) Stinky posted something like "Doing 58 in a 30, car appeared out of nowhere, I collided & killed the driver/passenger" would we be reading comments such as "bad luck" and "sorry to hear about that" ? Obviously not.

30 Limits are usually there for a damn good reason, to keep the likes of me & other road users safe.

Doing nearly double the limit, regardless of what you perceve to be a safe speed, is both silly and dangerous.

Expect a ban, frankly, its what you deserve.

Harsh, I know, its not rocket science sticking to limits, it would help if coppers ,for example, lead by example & stuck to the limits themselves!

Time & a place for speeding, 30 limits are not one of the said places I'm afraid.

Good luck stinky, you'll need it tbh.

One of the things i find quite shocking is you have only been driving 1 year, the courts will no doubt think you drive recklessly most of the time.

to be honest i know plenty of roads that are 30MPH speed limit but really should not be, effectively they are country roads 60MPH, that have always been country roads, till some builder built like 4 houses on them now they are 30MPH. In no way shape or form should they be, and no-one drives at 30MPH.

However, the polic don't see it that way...they see it as a money maker.

Its ridiculous. The road should be 40MPH at least!!

It's probably to keep the level of noise down mate

One of the reasons why I've kept pretty quiet. 58mph in a 30mph area is pretty bad. Especially for such a new driver. But I'm not going to preach as I do speed from time to time - just not nearly double in a 30mph area :)

Good Luck

i have accepted i was speeding. but it wasnt 58mph. well i dont think so....

but do those guns lie???

Think about it.... no they don't. How would they "lie" they'd have to clock onto something that was going 58mph. They can get you from a long way away though so many it was earlier than you thought.

Plus as it's been mentioned, 58mph was your real speed, you clocks would have been showing at least over 60mph.

By the sounds of it you've confessed it already by accepting. Trying to deny it would be pretty pointless imo.

dont get me wrong i will still pleed guilty. but its just *** i think.

well its defo worked. i drive a lot more carfully now. just hope i dont get 6 points :(

Good Luck

I drive for a living, daily, I see what ,to me, are obviously inexperienced (or, bloody stupid) drivers taking daft risks, usually for little or no gain.

Road accidents are unpleasant, as anybody who, like I, has lost somebody close to them because of the actions of another driver will verify. :(

I drive more miles in 6 weeks than many people drive in a year, I feel almost dutybound to try to point out the errors of other peoples ways on the road, not as a point scoring exercise, more, a life saving one.

Sure I'm not a saint behind the wheel (I drive both an artic and a BMW, I must be a devil in most peoples eyes) but when I see ,for example, people undergoing a lesson in a driving school car, passing me doing an accurate legal limit speed (trucks have calibrated speedo's) I really fear for the future of our roads.

Another thing to consider, most car speedo's read fast, so, by that logic, chances are your speedo was reading higher than the 58MPH he clocked you at.

Again I mean you no offence stinky, I just sincerely hope you've learned your lesson regardless of whatever the court outcome is.

Good man, you seem to see where I'm coming from. ;)

i do. but i dont wanna lose my license. i see now how much trouble you can get in. and it just aint worth it. i would still have got to the destination even if it was 5mins difference.

just hope i can show the judge that

As silly as this may be (I don't know, I'm not well up on courts & stuff :o ) I'd print out this thread and show it to the judge if you get the chance, it should certainly show him/her that you've seriously considered your actions....

Better to arrive than to not arrive at all......
