I can't get to sleep

Just close your eyes and lay there until you fall asleep. If you keep getting up or shifting about, you're not going to fall asleep.

With that, I'm off. It shall take me 5 minutes to wash my face and brush my teeth and an additional 2-3 minutes to fall asleep. Based on that, I should be fast asleep by 1:10. Night.

In-ear headphones annoy me too, so I just wear on ear headphones and listen to some relaxing music, sends me off in no time.

Problem. I live in a house with no books. I have to sleep with my cousin usually (I swear if anyone says a word I report them for sexual speech) so it will annoy him if I turn the lights on. He also has to go work at 4:00 in the morning.

Blood relative? If so thats probably more of a no go...

In reality there's this weird relaxation thing mum used to get us to do when I was young to get off to sleep. You get your self comfy in bed (so you don't need to move) then just sort of relax focusing your mind on the extremities of your body (feet and fingers). You then gently relax feeling the blood flow to them and the tension of your body flowing out the tips of your fingers and toes. Its weirdly relaxing and always helps if sleep is needed

another vote for reading. always helps me get to sleep. doesnt have to be a boring book as everyone has said, just read a story you want to read. at your age i would recommend the Terry Pratchett juveniles (especially 'the wee free men') and skullduggery pleasant by Derek Landy as well.
if you cant read in the bedroom because of your cousin then get yourself completely ready for bed and in your pyjamas and lie on the sofa reading for a while, preferably with a blanket over you. whatever you do, dont have the telly on. if the parents are watching telly then prehaps you could read in their bed before you go to sleep in your own.

aside from the books (and anything thats really obvious) i do have one other trick up my sleeve, and its called flux:

if you install that on your computer, then tell it your location (latitude and longitude can be found on google maps i expect) it will change the warmth of the colours on your monitor when the sun goes down, which will help your eyes think that its night time.

you will need to turn it off if you are gaming on the PC at night, as it will ruin the colours of the game, but if you are just internet browsing then its fantastic. i eventually removed it because i'm a student so i'm practically nocturnal :p
(meaning i had to turn it on and off whenever i went in and out of games)
however, when it was time for my exams and i needed to be up in the morning i put it back on and it really helped. it made getting to sleep at night a lot easier

Yeah he's my dad's brother's son.

Or to put it more simply my Uncle's son.

I will try your technique when I get in the bed.

One of my friends gave me advice of how to get to sleep: just clear all thoughts and think about nothing at all. If you find yourself thinking about something, block it out. It helped a bit...

Anyway happy janmashtami. I guess you are Gujarati too?

I'm a Hindu. Is that janmashtami thing what we did yesterday where we had to eat cold food?

If earphones are a no-go and you can't have a light on to read a book then you may want to try a "sound asleep pillow". It's a pillow with a little speaker in it - so you can hear it when you are in bed (as your ear is next to the speaker) and someone sleeping in the same room can't hear it.

I don't think I would be allowed to invest any money.
