What's made up?
Well the 'fortune' comment is a bit of an exaggeration but to go from 1 gig a week to up to 4 a week did seem like a fortune.

I imported it form Japan when I was in school.

You still had to get up and turn it over though.
On that AIWA cassette deck above you could press FF or REW with another button and it would find the next track
