In the 80s on my Sony HiFi tower, whatever they were called, I had a record player that scanned the LP first and then you could choose what tracks you wanted to play :eek:
You still had to get up and turn it over though.

On that AIWA cassette deck above you could press FF or REW with another button and it would find the next track :eek:
