i dont hate steam!

every few weeks or so it will tell me a game is unavailable, that's about a limit to my problems with it.

Delete clientregistry.blob :p

This.

Located in the main Steam folder.

I don't think I have ever failed to log into steam, it's perfect 99% of the time, when it goes wrong I just end the .exe and rerun it (4-5 seconds) and all is well

I would just back up the steam apps folder and completely reinstall steam than just deleting the blob file, just move the steam apps back in after. If the issue persists its something on your end, I never have the issues like your having and use steam pretty much daily, something is royally screwed on on your PC :D

another problem is it never remembers my password, that may be a clue to my problems?

runing mem test now, but im pretty sure that will be fine

Sounds like steam isn't allowed to make changes

anyhow to the problem at hand

Have you

Check your routers settings some have there own firewall/nat that blocks some ports that steam needs. list of Ports

Tryed turning off windows firewall and seeing if steam connects ok after [ if not try ] if that makes it work then go in to windows firewall and add steam to the list of allowed programs.

Turn off virus program sometime they can do things you havn't ask them 2 :) turn back on after.

A few things that might help us work out problems

what ISP you on
What router you got

only time I had an issue with steam is when I got windows 7 and forgot to add an exception to windows firewall. worst comes to worse you could always re-install steam and try again. Should be able to do this without loosing what ever games you may have installed.

Steam for Windows is a very reliable piece of software, the only repeatable error I've seen has come from overloaded servers during big sales/updates. The one time I had an issue (was with achievements in Portal) the support was very helpful. The same can't be said for the Mac version, but I imagine that will come with time.

Anyways, as said, delete ClientRegistry.blob, if that doesn't fix it, post in the support section.

Never once had a disconnection from steam or been unable to log in...fair enogh the past few days it gets a TAD slow around the 6pm mark, but thats kinda to be expected, and games will then take a couple of attempts to get downloading as it says the servers are busy, but thats it :/
