I don't understand the negativity towards Prius

The CT200h is a posh Prius for badge snobs.

It's nicer inside than the Prius I'll give you that but you don't get a HUD :/

and also the boot is small

and you'd be more nervous parking at the shops (other people opening doors/trolleys next to the car)

Ground clearance is poorer

My 16 year old self would be so proud!

Also I've not had a drunken person try get into the car - I think Prius only counts as an Uber vehicle if it's white or black - mines blue (galaxy blue yo)

If people buy it for what it is as an economical city car then fair game but then claiming they are doing it to save the planet is complete nonsense. The guy down the road running his 20 year old Volvo is the environmental one not you!

Yep, but they don't reward anyone for that because it's bad for business. Gotta lease a new car every 3 years to "save the planet" ;) ;)

50mpg isn't that great, I've achieved close to that in a 1.4 (160ps) Golf on a 30 mile route trip on a mix of town & a roads with DSG & across I've cylinder technology (lawnmower mode!). Along with the Golf having a decent size boot, decent enough handling & Dynaudio speakers.

Not just the Prius, but I don't get why a lot of the electric/hybrid vehicles have to have IMO a stupid design, presumably to look futuristic.

Compared to my previous bmw that I averaged 21mpg in, I think 51 is now fantastic

wife has the lexus ct200h and it's a fantastic city car. for driving in rush hour traffic, constant traffic lights and bumper to bumper, etc. gets over 50mpg doing that too.

is there much of a price difference between a well specced prius and a ct200h? also the ct200h looks 10 times better so i thought it was worth paying the extra for it's not just for the lexus badge but the styling of the vehicle as well as all the stuff you get as standard. plus lexus extended warranty, service and mot scheme is very good from the dealers.

not sure if toyota offer all the stuff lexus dealers do.

Strikes me that we have too many victims of clever marketing, as employed by the Germans.
Sure, they have great interiors, and yes they're often very fast. Making up for that, the Japanese and Koreans seem to have a definite edge on reliability, and if you excuse the diesels, more economical.

Personally I think the CT and Prius are very clever cars. Not as "appealing" as your Audi with it's soft plastic interior, but chances are better engineered (i.e. the bit you can't see), more reliability and more economical.

Hybrids are always deceptively quick off the line (high torque, no need to build revs). We have at work the Merc, 350Es, and the BMW 335Es (sorry forget exact model designations), they are fast, upto about 80 then they are slower than the disels that haven't been replaced yet.
Of course most of the time 0-80 is what the vast majority drive.

Ca'nt see how i can see a prius beating a TT though, maybe if they were not trying. 0-30 or so probably, I would say it would probably beat a R8 0-30 in plenty of circumstances as well.
Because you can floor a prius and know its not going to be a problem (its 0.2 sec slower to 60 than a 1.5 diesel focus, which equally you can floor most of the time ;) ), floor something like most TTs and faster in urban environments and you can quickly have problems :) 0-60 prius is 10.5, even the baby 1.8 TT is sub 7 (6.9)

Maybe the TT driver was laughing too much to react accordingly? :D

To be fair I don't think the TT was trying very hard until he realised he was just out dragged by a Prius. The Prius can definitely drop cars off the line if they aren't expecting it.

Also I love overtaking other cars in a Prius, I think it sends a certain type of message 'If you are overtaken by a Prius then you need to reassess your driving style and speed up' epic pwned

Info: Prius weighs around 1500kg
