I feel like I'm... done with gaming?

I definitely have this feeling right now, which is a shame as I am about to have 3 weeks off work. Having just had a decent stint with Two Point Hospital and then AC Odyssey I am now at a loss.

Just Cause 4 - just too pricey for the time I will get out of it.
X4 - I want to love it, but it just seems like every other X game and I just can't be fussed starting all over again (where as both X3 games sucked me into, and I had fun with, the massive grind).
Fallout 76 - Why, just why.

I can't think of much beyond the next single player Fallout or Elder Scrolls that will suck me back into gaming.

Well, the positive thing about having an extended time off from gaming is that the titles that are more likely to grab my interest have been mounting up in the meantime. Having put decent time into games only for about six weeks or so of the past 18 months, I have pretty much missed both new Assassin's Creed titles, Kingdom Come, Wolfenstein II, the new Pillars of Eternity, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, TW Warhammer II, etc..

That little pile of games plus my new monitor is giving me some gaming time to look forward to over Christmas.

Welp, I've fallen into this dip again, after rebuilding my PC with some upgraded cooling and more focus on silence. I've picked up a huge roster of new games recently and 2 days ago, the wife and I were playing OW and we had match after match after match of being put up against stupidly high ranked players carrying their friends or being teamed up with bought accounts. I didn't even realise you can buy a high ranked account for $30! Anyway, ruined it and I got super frustrated and just gave up. Last night, I didn't even tough my PC and today I just don't even want to think about it...

Prior to that, I dabbled in a few games here and there, Styx, Dragon Quest 11, Forza Horizons 4, BF5 (HA) etc etc. But, nothing has gripped me. I may default my self and jump into Skyrim again and just sink a few evenings into it knowing it will bring me back.

Does anyone else have their 'default' go to game to refresh their thirst for gaming? Another is Eve, I can sit and just hack sites for hours in that game.

There have been points when I've not been interested in my game library or currently installed games. However, those have been times where I've not been interested in other interests either. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was as the result of full blown depression, but they certainly were times of "low mood".

After upgrading to a Vega 56 from a R9 290X (an upgrade that netted me AssCreedOd + 2 other titles), it's reinvigorated my desire to game. New and old titles are now subject to my scrutiny as far as performance on a high refresh or 2160p panel is concerned!

The ultrawide was/is a great experience, but fundamentally I think I was just done with gaming and kidding myself with a new shiny monitor. Once the buzz of a new toy wore off I sold it.

I really want to game. I like the *idea* of it, but when I sit down and start playing I don't enjoy it like I used it.

It's interesting that I wrote this because I've just bought the AW3418DW again after selling it. Price was too good to say no. I was thinking about going back to Mac but tbh my love for tech and tinkering keeps pulling me back to PC. I plan to build a new PC in Feb with something like an RTX2080, even if I won't have huge amount of time to play games I can at least have it as an option. I use my desktop for work all day every day so the gaming is an added (albeit expensive) benefit I cannot get with Mac.

You'll probably be able to build a great gaming PC for the cost of a Mac anyway! :p It's a shame they are priced as they are, I would have got an iMac this year but there was such a good offer at Dell that I had to snap it up.

This was one of the big draws of a custom PC. The spec that I can build is amazing compared to Apple. If I can live without MacOS then it’s a no brainier.

You can run MacOS on a PC you know

Ha yes indeed.

My work is based around using office 365 and chrome for development so in this area Windows is actually better. I do like the aesthetic of MacOS and the integration with other hardware. However a budget doesn’t go that far with Apple vs a customer PC.

I can atleast play some games on a PC if I like.

So much BS within the games industry now. From denuvo/drm, microtransactions, dlc, store exclusives, pre order bonuses, loot boxes, overpriced hardware, etc. No wonder i barely play/buy games now.

The games industry doesn't deserve my money. Would rather spend time doing other hobbies now.

Keep your eyes peeled for the new Enderal dlc updates and it's official release on Steam. If Skyrim revivifies you then this total conversion mod should be up your street assuming you've not yet played it -

I get like this a few times a year I just can be bothered with gaming at all. But then I get the urge and end up playng something a lot.

I think as you get older you realise that although it's fun at times, that's all it is. There's no residual benefit to gaming either, you can't say that about travel, or just walking round the Peak District. Gaming is shallow and you realise that later in life, deep down you know you're wasting your life if you're spending endless hours on it. When you're a teenager time is almost endless, in your 40s you're thinking I might only have 10-20 healthy years left is playing games really what I want to do with a hell of a lot of my free time?

Same with TV. No matter how good the show is, it's still just watching TV.

When my dad went into hospital with cancer which he later died from, I asked whether he wanted hospital TV setting up, he looked at me (I think he knew he was dying, I knew also) and said 'I've watched enough TV' that's not exactly what he meant though, the look in his eyes said 'I've wasted so much time watching TV' (he was a relentless channel flicker), he did play Golf regularly and enjoyed gardening, but he was obviously really regretting not doing other things.

sorry if this has been quoted and reviewed endlessly, but this is how I feel, I loved gaming, I was part of the whole console generation and on getting my first pc in 98, was a mad gamer.. Every morning now, I wake up, look in the bathroom mirror, my dad is haunting me I swear, I still play games on the pc, but strategy or single player. I played a mmporg for 8 years, it killed a relationship, it spawned many more, I've since had kids, (not from someone I met online!) and now I realise how much of the 'best years' of my life I wasted.. basically 25-33 . Sometimes I think what I could have achieved in that time, if I had used the same dedication. It's a sobering thought, and watching my kids on their tablets, I'm very careful.

Well im 54, and still going strong, all single player for me now, Just completed Res evil 7, Rise of the Tomb raider, Halfway through Fall out 4, and just started Dishonoured 2.
I dont play every day but when i do i have a couple of hours at a time.
Lost interest when i hit 50 and got back into Motorbikes, but that has slowed a bit and the PC got semi rebuilt last year.
One of these days im gonna do an all dayer but i always have other stuff to do.
Would like to try VR before i hang up my controllers for good !!!!

I do go through spots of gaming boredom I have to admit, but I've always come out of it after a while. I usually go back to playing WoW and messing around on that, like leveling up an alt or doing achievements for a bit.

DLC and Pre-Order bonuses are alright. They don't really destroy things. I remember DLC in the form of expansion packs back in 2000 for Quake 3. Team Arena. Though you could call that Pre-Order bonus DLC back then as well, as I had to phone in to a store to put a deposit for it back then as they phoned me up weeks later for me to come and collect it.

What really grinds my gears now is the pathetic cosmetic skins. £7.99 for a weapon skin in Quake Champions. Everything is following the Fortnite model from cosmetic skins to battle passes as well as the free to play/early access models. It creates an obsession for rarity. Just like sticker albums.

Nobody tries to be unique anymore. It's all following the same trend. Then if you choose not to go down that path it becomes like Gran Turismo 5 down the endless grind. Grinding can be fun for all the right reasons.

Let alone how every game these days has to be Battle Royale. Game companies now are obsessed in chasing cosmetics rather than fixing game breaking bugs but the masses love it.
