I feel like I'm... done with gaming?

It’s not a bad thing, I’ve found when I get these feelings it’s usually a good sign I should be doing something else with the little time I have outside of life’s musts.

Don’t force it, you’ll find in a few months/years something will come along that takes your fancy. Problem with PC’s though is it can mean fairly expensive upgrades alongside it to get the right experience.

i am 43 and i am the other way i love gaming i was dragged up on games from old Atari games then i got my pc in the 90's and installed EVERQUEST boom 10 years gone lol
i can see me an old man in a wheelchair still gaming

36 here, did gaming from the late 80s with my Amiga 500+, then a ps1, then pc gaming followed by Xbox and Xbox 360. Had a long break from gaming for close to 10 years, recently got back into it though with my son. No where near to the same level though, started to play fortnite recently and I'm rubbish!

I'm 28 here and I'm feeling this way. All my long term gaming mates have also gone off gaming. I am trying the find a game to sink my teeth into but nothing seems to stick.

How do you guys find people on Pubg to squad up with on comms etc?

Since I built my first gaming PC back in 2004, I've been pretty keen gamer. Also during my childhood and adolescence a fair bit earlier on the Spectrum and Amiga.

I always looked forward to my Xmas gaming binges, took time off around my birthday to do some gaming, and generally always had a game on the go even if I didn't manage to eke out much time to play.

Earlier this year, though, something odd happened. I was at the point just before the last boss of Dark Souls III when, all of a sudden... I just couldn't be bothered going any further.

I installed Life is Strange: Beyond the Storm, but only got 15 minutes in before I completely lost the desire to play (and I was a huge fan of the first one).

It was like a switch just flipped in my brain that totally removed my interest in games. I've looked through my game libraries and wishlists, but I feel... nothing. Not the slightest desire to play anything. Complete lack of interest for most of this year (I've played Fortnite with my kids, but that's more to share an activity with them than me really enjoying it).

I am really quite surprised by this, but not dismayed, I don't think. This isn't intended to be another help me get back into gaming thread. In fact I think I've probably used my time better since this happened. I'm basically curious if anyone else has experienced this. I'm 42, so maybe I'm just past gaming? I really didn't think this would happen - I'd envisioned myself playing Original Sin 20 or Far Cry 30 in my 70s!

I went through this same thing a few years ago. Thought about giving up completely then I spotted an advert for a second hand Rift fairly close to me and on an impulse I bought it. On the way home in I was thinking to myself 'Why did I buy this? I don't even game anymore!! IDIOT' But, it has turned out to be my best PC purchase ever. It restored my interest in gaming. Even though for a while I couldn't play anything but VR games, I am back now to enjoying normal PC games again.

VR has brought me back to when games were great and new and fresh. I can play table tennis against a mate, then shoot some paintball after that If I am tired I can go explore the stars in Elite Dangerous and If I don't feel tired, I can try some boxing.

Without VR I would have quit PC gaming.

56 going on 57. Still gaming and intend to keep going as long as my eyesight and reflexes allow. However I do find myself drawn back to older classics, such as Fallout (I guess even FO4 is getting on a bit now), Skyrim or Deus Ex. Also spend more time in simulation stuff and like a previous poster I would love a decent golf game in the style of the old Links, Jack Nicklaus from the Amiga etc.

It's natural to lose and gain interest in hobbies as you get older. I used to play cricket and follow it quite closely, now I don't bother with it at all and going the same with with football. However I used to have a passing interest in rugby but now that's a massive time sync via playing and watching games.

You mean time sink.

Playing with the general public can be hit and miss but join the ocuk discord channel and you will have a blast.

Anyhow between pubg and borderlands 2 goty edition that I've just picked up, it should keep my attention for the next few months :)

I'm not done with gaming, I just have a serious meh attitude when it comes to most games these days. They just don't make the grade, and that's where 30 years of gaming gets you.

Last two games I played that I was addicted to was Diablo 3 back in 2013 and Rimworld 2016.

I actually find myself playing games from the 80s and 90s. For instance I'm currently playing OpenXcom TFTD lol.

Totally get the OP, I think I'm done with gaming as well to be honest, I've tried loads of times now to kickstart it and it just wont happen. I just sit and stare at the games list without opening any, or open one and play it for 15 minutes before getting bored.

The way it's going with more and more games aimed at multiplayer online and co-op or battle royale stuff is the reason for me, I'm not into any of that.

Just chiming in again, I've picked up Pillars II, it's bloody good. A lot of fun and really drags you into the style of playing it like a story. Give it a shot mate.

So, I've looked at a good few of the suggested games (PUBG, PoE II), and it's just not grabbing me.

VR I like the idea of, but as I'm stereoblind I don't think it would work for me very well.

My wife is away tonight, and usually when she goes away for a night or two I'd plan a good few days ahead which games I would play in the evenings. This time, though, I looked again at my Steam, GoG and Origin account and the games suggested here and have no desire to play anything still. This is the first time my wife has had some nights away that I've not grabbed the opportunity for a gaming marathon.

Though, as some have said, doing other things isn't half bad. Instead of gaming I've binge-watched about half the first series of The Expanse, which has been really entertaining. I also did some work in the evening, which felt nicely productive.

I think you're over thinking it.
Just jump into a game, jump on discord, make whatever you're doing a little more social (if that helps) and just crack on. Perhaps when you're in game, try to play the game a little different to what you normally do, play it on a more difficult setting, play with randoms, open your mind to new things.

29 here and feel the same as well then, i can't be bothered to get into a game which is the same i think as the op and other people.

I think it is about growing up, i treat life it self as a game to be frank.

I used to be hooked on command and conquer red alert 2 back in 2004/5.

Now i mostly use my pc for browsing the internet and music.

Edit.

But mind you i occasionally join my friends in a online multiplayer game like rust or raft or killing zone 2 etc.

Likewise.

When I get into a game, it is great, but that's the problem now, just can't get into anything these days.

That and just general pricing of PC hardware has taken away the enjoyment of "PC gaming" for me, just can't justify the extreme costs any more especially when graphics aren't much, if any better than the console version and in some cases, exclusive titles on the PS 4 for example look better than any title on the PC.....

In 2 minds what to do now, I need a new GPU for HDR and HEVC support but my CPU + MB +RAM needs upgraded too so it's either that or thinking of just selling the PC and getting a laptop and just use that for the MP games like BF, division and so on with the guys on Dc here and then get a ps 4 pro for the single player games (I am not as much of a graphics whore as what I use to be so I be happy enough to drop settings to maintain a constant 60 FPS)

41 here and yes definitely don't game as much as I did but that's more down to having other things occupying my time which I enjoy more. Still enjoy the odd hour here and there and come winter time that'll probably increase but my enthusiasm for pc gaming died when it became publisher driven rather than dev driven.

I am feeling the same, and its partly down to the fact PC hardware is getting expensive and more importantly AAA PC devs seem to be wanting to make everything online, with microtransactions, etc and seem to be ignoring decent SP RPG games on PC in favour of PvP bashy bashy games.

Then I look at the PS4 and see decent SP exclusive games which I would rather play than many of the releases on PC! :( I mean FFS,I have fun with online games too(back even when UT first came out),or even something like D3,PS2,OW or HOTS,but not everyone wants to be playing online all the time with randoms bashing each other. It seems AAA PC games are loosing their uniqueness over consoles, and becoming lazy "games as a service" asset flips, and consoles seem to be getting more effort. The only issue is I can't stand analogue controllers! :(

Then you have companies like Bethesda Game Studios who go on about their commitment to SP games and then follow all the RPGs with online games. The same with what happened with GTA. Then the PC game modding is increasingly under attack too,so companies can monetise it.

Would a great and intriguing story/concept suck you in to a game perhaps? SOMA, Quantum Break and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice are all quite unique and I felt that the actual playing of these games was secondary to progressing with the story and to find out more about what was going on. Might be worth a look..

I did think that. I downloaded Quantum Break a few months ago, but still I've just not been motivated to play it. Still just getting a feeling of complete indifference when looking at my games library/wishlist, even for games I know I was looking forward to last year.

Still, my wife is away at a conference for a week next month so we'll see - if that free time doesn't encourage me to try out a new game I can't think what will...

If you can even force yourself to play through the first hour of Quantum Break, it should be enough for the story to wet your appetite. The whole time travel / time loops and that whole concept blows my mind so if that's the sort of thing you can appreciate it then it's worth enduring the game just for the story, it's as good as any movie you could watch imo.
