I don't know about RepRap, but one of the few that can mill and print that I have seen is the Sumpod - though I'm not sure what it can mill as I think the drive system has to set up differently on milling machines.

Have you got any knowledge on the DIY DLP projector printer, and any idea which versions are any good?
The DLP printer looks very nice, and will give awesome results.
It is a simple method, a bit like laser sintering. Just expose the resin to the shape and it solidifies.

Be that adding material, or a binder to build up the model.
It all comes down to the cost of the resin. A projector and other hardware should be fairly cheap.

Im about to order one of these printers, currently looking at either the RepRapPro Mendel, Up! Plus or the PrintrBot Plus...
The Up! Plus is the most expensive with the smallest build area 5.5x5.5x5.3, it is a professional looking tidy unit and seems to be the easiest plug and play solution.
The RepRapPro Mendel has great scope to add a 2nd and 3rd head and good sized 8x8x4 build area, it seems to be quite a project building and calibrating it, but this looks like it could be half the fun and a good way to learn about the machine.
The PrintrBot Plus seems to be the best build area at 8x8x8, a nice clean looking build, with the pre-fab wood box/case giving a tidy finished unit, but unfortunately they don't currently offer international shipping... Should I wait and try and get one of these?
Any thoughts or advice from current owners, even other machines I've not looked at, would be hugely appreciated.

Damn it, found a UK supplier of the Up!Plus local to me, but they've no stock and won't be able to get me one for 2 weeks.
Ive also been reading a lot about the MakerBot Replicator, which for under £1400 delivered is 2 colour printing and fully assembled. Tricky decision now, £1800 for the Up!plus with a 2week wait, or £1400 for the MakerBot Replicator with a 4-5week wait.

After reading this thread, I am seriously considering asking my company to go for 3D printing rather than a milling machine due to the dust and additional precaution required in a work place - and finding a specific room for such work. 3D printing I suppose can be done in our lab.
Anyone that can help answer would be greatly appreciated:
1) How does this compare to say a Roland Milling machine? Speed vs resolution of printing/milling e.g. a 30x30mm piece of plastic/plaster piece?
2) Does the same software work on 3D printing or does it use a different format?
Need to know this as the Roland kit comes with a software which allow us simply turn out JPEG image into a 3D file within 10mins and then set the miller to work.

I realise this is probably an old video but do 'modern' 3D printers still use this powder stuff you need a machine to blow off or is this one using a completely different technique?
Also, I imagine making a 3D shape capable of being printed out is quite a technical process, it's not something my mum could do for example.

Sintering printers do exist, but not really DIY.
The home printers don't use that process, it's like a glue gun, but plastic.
Newer technique uses light cured resin, meaning for higher resolution, more complex shapes, faster print time, but the resin is far more expensive.
It's not particular hard to make a simple shape. But you don't have to, there's library's of models you can just down load and that's expanding all the time.

Not been getting a lot of success getting answers to my 3d printer questions on here, but ill ask anyway, I've now got an Up! Plus printer, been printing with it all weekend and I'm loving it, currently I'm using the included 700g 1.75mm ABS reel that it came with. I'm looking to get a range of other colours and also a couple of PLA filaments to test out.
Can anyone recommend any UK based suppliers of good quality 1.75mm filaments?
Failing that can anyone recommend some good UK/Europe based forums where ill be able to find useful information of suppliers etc.
The place ive found which seems to have the largest selection sell at £23+vat/kg, qhich seems cheap, but i dont know if they are good quality as they arent a specialist rewrap type store, infact they mainly sell CD writers, so I cannot link to them as they will be competitors.
