Down under mate!
Just to finally clarify the rules.

  • 1. No competitor talk!
  • 2. A competitor is defined as a company who sells similar hardware/periphal products to OcUK, which Amazon do and as such Amazon are *NOT* allowed, but a site such a Steam is fine as selling games is not our business.

Simples. :)

What about Play, Asda, Tesco, Dell, Apple and the rest? They sell "similar hardware/periphal products to OcUK". This clarification is the same as it was before.

Can we still talk about Amazon in relation to DVD's / Games? Or is this a general no Amazon talk rule?

Amazon don't sell Hardware as their core product, which is Books / DVDs / Games? So surely in relation to those specific cases we should be able to speak of them? no?

Does this mean no Asda / Tesco talk? Or Play?

The whole thing over Amazon came up because of their upcoming digital distribution gaming thing...

I am a bit confused, during the ramble going on this weekend a few dons were saying it was ok to mention "the A word" just avoid talk of the hardware part and "now" the new games part they will be launching later.

But if the management has finally got consensus on Amazon and that is it what thundy said then ok.

Tho i think a lot of people wanted an exhaustive list of all non ok stores so it was clear which store can and cannot be talked about.

I actually didn't know about Amazon selling PC components. Never thought about it for some reason. Until now, anyway ;)

This is ridiculous! By banning the mentioning of Amazon, you're alerting people to the fact that they sell computer hardware...

How is this logical? It's like the very definition of ironic (take note people, ironic).

What do you think? I mean: why do you post what you think it means?

These are the forum rules for the gaming section of the forum - not across the board (i.e. talk of the Kindle, the iPad, Macs etc are all OK).

That in itself makes no sense. Saying you can't talk about places in certain sub-forums is ridiculous. If they're going to ban Amazon, Play, Tesco, Asda etc have to go too based on the same logic.

Whats wrong with the general rule that you can't mention a competitor that sells PC Hardware in relation to PC Hardware posts?

So, If you make a post saying a DVD / Game is available from Play.com @ £5 cheaper then the RRP upon release that should be fine.

So, If you make a post saying a Gaming mouse is available from Play.com @ £5 cheaper then OcUK this isn't allowed and users making posts of this ilk should be dealt with?

I think mentioning where to get Hardware cheaper form is a bad idea, but certainly not Games.

Everyone here knows what rules OcUK are trying to achieve with these forum rules (to protect their business) - why not suggest some instead of just picking apart any that are put in place. Might be useful. Someone where might be able to come up with something that solves this ongoing problem.

Also im confused with the statement that ocuk do not sell games.

"as selling games is not our business"

The don Valkie or whatever his name is, was the leader of the games section (or whatever a small selection is called) and was very adamaent that ocuk does sell games and was pushing that it was ocuk core business in a way, which was why he got in a row with ocuk about the other etailers new download service which to be honest probably is no different to steams apart from the fact they dont have a core business and sell almost everything under the sun.
