I love the OCUK forums....but they are getting SO flakey these days.

Still don't know why you're allowed to advertise Fathers For Justice while I'm not allowed to mention 2plus2plus.com!!?? Not moaning at you btw....not really moaning, just bemused :)

I can. Quite happy to host the whole shebang free of charge in return for the ability to ban 2 members of my choice, regardless of their status. Excluding Spie of course :p.

Now you have to work out if I'm kidding or not...

Basically, people were too tight to pay £10 towards the cost of a new server.

Or maybe I'm thinking of a similar debate over at MGR.org

After looking at those stats though, I think the current server does very well! It gets hammered almost 24 hours a day :eek:

Just went on that site to see what it was.

Does all seem pretty harmless.......

Perhaps it's the fact it is a forum and not just a normal web site?

As I say, not moaning at you. I was told that I couldn't 'advertise' it in my sig but I pointed out a site that actually linked to a competitor and nothing was done. Who cares? This is not my site and I might be told off for bringing it up. Lets move on.... :)

So is http://www.bbc.co.uk but thats the fastest site I know (and the most hit site). The forums have been slow lately, but I just open up a few tabs and post one by one. There's a 20 second block between posts anyway :).
 
There would be no point paying subs - A large proportion of people wouldn't pay and would just go elsewhere so the place wouldn't be the same as it is now.

Surely some of you people have hobbies that you could turn to when the forums are down?

Maybe if there were more underbosses and dons more people would be banned and the current mods would be able to spend less time keeping the forums in tip top shape!

Mate he isn't having a go, he is just speaking his mind, right now the forums are nice and fast, but come weekdays daytime and firefox complains that the server takes too long to respond or whatever.

We're not saying it's a REQUIRED sub, it's optional and you would perhaps get your own avatar choice or something (though still sticking to sensible limits)? Just a small perk for a donation.

The BBC is not free. The license free pays for it and that’s about £150 a year, though not al of it spent on the web site.
 
I like the idea of paying a small sub for "elite status" - maybe custom avatars and some other nice goodies. That way it wouldn't drive too many people away and would probably encourage most users to actually pay up.

On the other hand, I really don't think the server is too bad.
 
Slow as poo for me a lot of the time. I do a lot of surfing and this os one of the slowest UK sites/forums that i frequent. But i'm not complaining :), it's free, and it's nice and blue. But there's £10 here, just a 'waitin to be spent.
