I love the OCUK forums....but they are getting SO flakey these days.

I would pay for the use of these forums

IMHO if you ban the posting of ebay related things GD would have half the posts posted

Perhaps we should have a poll....

(1) I am happy with the current speed/performance of the OCUK forums.

(2) I am dissatisfied with the current speed/performance of the OCUK forums.

(3) I am aware there are issues with the performance of the OCUK forums but the benifits of this free service out way these issues.

Don't have any problems personally, i surf during the day a lot and its hardly as bad as some are making out.

I'd pay a nominal amount to access the forums, as long as it doesn't create a two-tiered system where the payers are treated better.
 
Maybe allowing us the choice to turn avatars off again might save a little bandwidth? ;)

The forums have been pretty bad recently, it's either very slow or the database has died. I would certainly donate to the cause if it helped.

Nobody, but he's saying it would cut down on unnecessary GD posts I think. ebay do have their own forums after all. (and I know I had an ebay thread recently myself)

Well, we have enough complaints that computer related stuff can't be posted, never mind a blanket ban.
 
disabling the search function just means more repeated posts from my experience, not a good thing :)

How would you feel after paying to use the forums you got banned though? I'd wager you'd be seriously miffed. It could end up being more hassle than it's worth for Spie and the Dons.

Well there you go then, it's not people being cheap, it's just that things they would like won't happen, plus the point is that if they are used to something being free they wouldn't want to pay up for it.
 
people paying is only gonna work if enough people pay if only say a dozen do then thats gonna do nothing !

Yer fine they help the shop but at its current state i think they are fine !

But i would contribute £10 if many others did and it was worth it :)
 
maybe just do a £5-10 contribute to a "new server fund" and surely by the time 200-300 people donate they'll have a good £1,000-3,000 depending on the people and how much they each donate.
and they *should* get a faster forum speed in return for everyone.
 
Don't really have an issue with the speed. Its usually ok for me during the day and I very rarely go on here in the evenings so can't comment about that.
I do agree about removing the avatars though, that would save a bit of bandwidth. They are also annoying as well seeing as I hate the Godfather films!
