I try to be nice

Why do you call the OP a ponce, has he harmed or offended you in any way?

Because of the tone of his post as well as the fact that he refers to people like the junkie woman as scum even though all she did was ask for money. It's his own damn fault he gave in and let her have some of his money.

Scum are people who vandalise and harm other people for no apparent reason or personal gain such as muggers etc.

If anything she sounds like an annoyance at worst, an unpleasent sight at the least.

How do you deal with this?

How do you protect yourself from the scum without walling yourself in?

Anyway, thanks for reading.

Eagerly awaiting "cool story, bro", "tl;dr" and "worst.......thread ever".

I dont think there' a correct answer to this. If you let your guard down you'll allow this to happen, if you keep it up you'll miss the opportunity for occasions of random good interactions.

You didn't need to engage with her past her initial rapport that was to engage you enough to win your pennies, I think that's more about you not standing up and being direct and honest, you were clearly impacted in the moment and allowed yourself to be further impacted....you gave her money.

I can understand you because I see myself in your situation, you gotta stop at some point and look at how youre being impacted and stop it from happening....when I get to that point I'll let you know!

It'll teach you for leaving the house and having to interact with people, but thank goodness you had a computer forum to relieve your social anxiety! :p

Have to say I agree have with you on every count, but, maybe you could have used a different term of a less abusive nature; such as **** (fill in your own expletive here). ;)

It's definitely something I'm going to have to work on. Good post :)

Clearly we have a different definition of "scum". We'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

I don't live in Birmingham.

;)

Birmingham isn't a bad place to live at all. Sure it has a few not so nice area's / people but most places do. If you do think that it's a rough area then you need to stop being a girl and man up...:p

Also OP, there's a saying I picked up awhile ago but I feel it's relevant here - "Expecting the world to treat you nice because your a good person is like expecting a bull not to charge at you because your vegetarian" ;)

I don't believe in the need to resort to begging.

In foreign countries, perhaps, but here where help is always available... No.

Thus if anyone asks me for cash, they can expect me to laugh in their face (at best).

That has to be the best I have ever seen:D Brick ***!

Wow 'for the win' is starred out?

As is "what the fudge".

OcUK are breaking some serious internet 'conduct' laws with this censoring.

"Family Friendly" fair enough, censor the full words... But censoring the acronyms... :/

People like that you just have to be a harsh *******. It's not your fault she's the way she is and if you gave away money to ever one that asked you'd be skint! I don't make millions of pounds I make a couple of quid over minimum wage so I don't feel guilt saying get to ****.

You can get benefits.....£5 a day? You get a flat paid for + council tax...what's not to like? You get to do **** all, all day every day! Must be bliss.

this happens a lot with people around me, just happened a big argument with my dad so i came on here because its the only thing that tends to calm me down just because i know i can say anything and someone will hopefuly read this and underestand, which feels nice,,
i hate him at the moment but i know in half and hour ill forgive him even though i wont tell him i forgive him...

i cant hold a grudge = against anyone, but i suppose its just who you are as a person, whether you are forgiving or not, most probably the way you and i was brought up, not sure thouhg :/
