What are your opinions of the 1.9 wheels on a 1.6? Looks wise, i think they look great :)
I agree, but they do taint the driving experience a little. If you aren't leathering it then you probably won't notice though :)

Chances are that I'll find a 1.6 with the bigger wheels on - it is worth changing them?

A 1.6 205 GTI is next on my list! My insurers dont seem to realise that it has the GTI badge on the end and will insure it for little more than my 1.3 Mini!
None over here in Ireland, so I'm going to wait till the summer and go to the UK on the hunt I think.

1.9 alloys definately look better. If you get a ph1/1.5 then i'd also get clear indicators and the ph2 rear light cluster too. Look much better IMO.

aww :( your going for the girly 1.6 arent you?

test drive a 1.6 first then test drive a 1.9, make sure the owner gives it a booting to show u what theyre like. im sure ud prefer the 1.9 :p

Unless you are really only concerned with straight line blasting then you'll probably find the 1.6 a more enjoyable drive. Of course, you may not agree but try both first.

To be honest, I think the little 1.6 pepperpots have a quaint charm. I wouldn't choose the 1.9s over them on a 1.6 car.

They grow on you!

i think they look vile and ruin the car. speedlines look so much better and the goodwood ones were just sexeh.

lol you make it sound like the 1.9 has poor cornering abilities, to be fair the 1.9 has much better road holding, just need to have your wits about you when things get a bit twitch at the back. adds to the fun and excitement imo. granted the long rod 1.9 engine doesnt rev like the 1.6 but the torque and the way the box is geared makes it pretty ruthless!

One of the main reasons for going for a 1.6 - insurance. I'd only be 20 with 1yr NCB (NUD Rapid Bonus thing :()

It'll cost me over £1000 to insure a 1.6!

I'd prefer the more nimble car tbh - most of the roads i drive are quite twisty, even the A roads.

maybe he blames his car for putting him into that bridge :p

over 1k to insure it westy?? id be reluctant to even pay £500 for the 1.9 lol!!

maybe you should keep your car another year and the extra ncb and 1yr older will make it more sensible??

Not at all - it just feels a touch more cumbersome to drive that's all. The 15" wheels tend to follow ruts in the road more than the 14" wheels. It's got nothing whatsoever to do with the back end getting twitchy - torsion bar suspension and overly flexible rear beam mounts combined with a short wheelbase are more to do with that.

No, I blame myself for not stopping driving when I started feeling tired. The car (which was a 309 anyway, not a 205) had nothing to do with it in the slightest. I'd have gone off the road that night in a Mondeo or a Mini, it wasn't the car it was me.

According to Norwich union i'd have a full 1 year's no claims in march, which they can certify as a full 1 year. After that i'm going to swap to a proper 12 month policy, get some proper NCB. I'll probably change car August time.

Nasty. I didn't fall asleep, just had one of those horrible moments where you feel like you're about to have an out-of-body experience...hearing goes funny, you go into a sort of daydream and then suddenly *WHAM* I came rushing back to reality, looked at the road ahead and just thought "There is no way in hell I can get round this bend"

I hit the brakes like a kid on a BMX and ploughed straight on.

It's mad, if I hadn't have braked and just carried on without taking any action I wouldn't have crashed.

I don't drive when I'm that tired any more. I pull in and kip as soon as I feel drowsy these days.

I still prefer the drive of the 1.6 though :p although my 1.6 currently wears 1.9 wheels because I happen to have a set of 1.9's with good tread on 'em. The 15" wheels do look nicer mind.

I really like the pepperpots. I do prefer the Speedline ones but I think that's mainly because they are a touch bigger. But I suppose it's all down to preference really.

Westy, Are the bonus accellerator thingey's not transferable between insurance co's then?

nope :( I was led to believe otherwise when i started the policy. I'm calling up to cancel my policy the moment they give me a certified 1 year's no claims in March :)
