i5 3570K quick test.

not all of them thought, most cpu only do 4.4GHz and cannot gone above that depend on board and chip.

Fair enough. I was under the impression that most could do 4.5ghz with a reasonble cooler + motherboard. Mine seems OK @ 4.6ghz with a Gelid Tranquillo on a Gigabyte board.

It remains to be seen what the IB's can do. I suspect they'll be OK with better cooling, but it will be a few weeks before we see what the "average" is. I went SB because I'd made my mind up to upgrade, but fancied my chances better with SB than new IB. It's looking like the SB I got will be around £30 cheaper than what an IB will cost at launch. I would also have spent at least another £20 on cooling. That's not to say that I wasn't tempted to do so, or that I think it's a bad idea to go IB. My advice is either buy SB now, or wait a few weeks/months before going IB.

So 4.6Ghz is pretty much the limit on the Antec Kuhler 920 which is a top end cooler, and its still running hot?

Thats without hyperthreading which adds about 10c-15c, so the 3770K will be even worse clockers?

4.8Ghz is the limit on HIGH END AIR COOLERS with a 3770k you get about the same temps as Stulid is getting at 4.8Ghz.... with Air that is. Id say the temps he is getting at 4.7Ghz are alright though I would try to take the vcore down a tad since 1.38v is able to be 4.8Ghz.

Off Topic: is the Antec Kuhler 920, genuinely a top end cooler?

I use a "proper" water cooling loop, with 2 rads and a reservoir (currently using a Swiftech waterblock) - how would the Kuhler compare? I'd have thought that in the World of water cooling, Kuhler woudl be right at the very bottom. Correct...or not?

Well its basically a single 120mm rad, which should be enough for a CPU on its own. Just watching TTL review he says it doesnt matter what cooling your using as once you reach the thermal limit the temps will sky rocket regardless of cooling unless you using sub zero cooling.

Fair do's

Guess you're right £200 is too much but that could well be the premium you have to pay for new tech. Hopefully it'll come in at £180 ... either way I'll pay the extra

Have we got more accurate pricing other than me putting a finger up in the air ?

It will most likely come in at a tenner extra over the price of the 2500K it is replacing. As the 2500K was the best bang for buck at this price then it figures that the 3570K will be too.

Would be awesome if that were true... wikipedia prices it at $225 so I cannot see it being less that £180.

With rip off Britain prices ... I'll stick my neck out and predict £199.98

time for an upgrade with quadruple times the goodness :D

Couple it with a SATA3 SSD and you'll be done for speeding. You're in for some good times with that upgrade :)
