Yeah I had the gd80 in my cart twice today... No regrets, I have bought some upgrades but not i5 ... I'll take your advice and visit more.

1600mhz seems to be the spot [performance/vfm] to go for that worked well with both the chips i used
the memory dividers mean 1600mhz gives a bit of headroom and clocks up to 4ghz with ease

I was reading that P55 has official support for higher memory frequencies than X58? . . . . marketing guff or reality
is this a moot point once you start overclocking or maybe the Lynnfield onchip memory controller is more efficient (it needs to be as its dual channel right) . . .

Wayne, go for the G. Skill ripjaw 1600mhz at a slice above 60 and don't worry about cas timings. Then enjoy bang for buck memory
It's the Geil Ultra that caught my eye . . . 2133MHz/CAS 9 is insane! 
But if its not possible to achieve those speeds than yeah the Ripsaw looks worth indeed!

Maybe a little overkill but my focus was bang for buck.
pushed the dominator GT [known to do 2100mhz on x58 @ 9-9-9-28 2T] to 2000mhz
but i am still familiarising myself with it
the imc seems to be stronger than that of the majority of i7's i have seen [recent 920s have memory controllers that struggle to top 1800mhz]
i think it could be reality when the bioses get up to speed
asus are doing a good job so far but the gigabytes seem lacking on the memory divider fronts
my honest opinion is that 1600mhz memory is more than enough
heck i run my 2000MHz OCZ blade at 1600Mhz 24/7
only because i can get it at near ddr2 timings
i think anything more is wasted and presents little gains per £

same stuff thats on the dominator GT
and its the new good hyper ics - not the stff that corsair had the issues with
i will get a pack out and do a roundup of dual channel ddr3 if i get time soon

You may be right but having used DDR2-1200 I was hoping for more when switching to DDR3
What I'm thinking that as Lynnfield is dual-channel it may respond well to the increased bandwidth!
If you do some game benchmarks at 800x600 with everything the same apart from memory frequency you will see what I mean, taking the obvious GPU bottleneck out the equation shows some good gains with the faster memory!
