i7 920...who is still enjoying its awesomeness

i5-750, same generation at least, i can be the poor cousin of you 920 gents :P
sayin that, ive not seen a game where my cpu has limited me to sub-60 yet (i dont play bf3 though :P)

Still pretty happy with my i7 920. Did have it at 4.3GHz for a little while but starting to require a bit more vcore these days so knocked it down to 4GHz on air. With my 680 still very happy with its performance. Games run happily at high settings generally speaking at 1440p. I am tempted to upgrade but even Haswell doesnt seem worth it. The only area I where I want more speed is flight simulator x. As it loves raw clock speed and cores I am considering an Intel hex core. Will wait for ivy/haswell -e but seems a bit ridiculous to upgrade to either just for flight sim. Such a shame Intel still dont have a mainstream hex core.

Still using a 920@4Ghz here. The limitations of this system arise more from the outdated motherboard (UD5). It's stuck with Sata II/USB 2 which can be a little bit frustrating when moving from an Ivybridge build. Gaming wise it's fine.

I just changed from my i7 930 recently to an i7 3770k as I went SFF and now very small tower and thermals of the i7 930 just needed a larger case in my eyes when clocked as the smaller form air coolers weren't really doing the job for me.

Happy with the upgrade as my temps obviously have plummeted and watt usage is very low indeed.

However got nearly 3 years use out of the chip, was a great CPU and if I didn't downsize my system I'd still be running one now tbh.

i7 920 running in a Asus P6T Dlx v2 mobo at 4 Ghz and still very happy. Was tempted by a new x78 set up but can't justify it at all.. Wouldn't mind adding some more memory and a ssd, can see myself being happy for a while longer with this chip!! :D

friendly place this. nice.

It was not meant to cause anyone offense. I was merely pointing out the fact that the i5 3470 is a stronger CPU than the i7 920, so it was not technically a downgrade.

i5 3470 vs i7 920

The 3470 is a little more powerful than the 3470S, but as you can see there is a considerable enough difference to show that the 3470S would still be more powerful in most situations when both chips are at stock clocks.

The i7 920 can be overclocked though which would make it quicker i imagine.

But your right i wouldnt call it a downgrade as such.
