i7-975 boxes

Sounds pretty sweet rjk. Although i really don't need the bundle ( already got the RAM; OCZ 2000MHz, and the the mobo; p6t7) plus i'm still looking into cooling systems. So really, its just the cooling solution and the hexacore in my sights right now.:D

dont buy a 975

wait for 6core

or buy a 920 for the time being and sell it when 6 core comes out

This is exactly what i was going to sugest. I'm not sure if you have used an i7 920 d0 at 4ghz+ or not if you still think its not fast enough get the 6 core when its released.

I've been getting the upgrade itch myself but I honestly can't justify spending on a new socket when my processor is sitting at 3.8ghz. I think my Q6600 will last me well enough waiting for the next generation of processors. What would you guys do?

Does your q6600 run everything how you would like? If so don't bother unless you really have to scratch that itch.

Hint Hint We have it now and its awesome and ready and tested and waiting for you to buy it for the low low price of ??????

i am not hinting at anything, i am saying that when it does come out i will have a bundle ready for it like i did with i7, i5, i3 and phenom2

i am a hardware enthusiast, this means i spend a lot of time reading about peoples success with engineering samples

this also means that OcUK stay a country mile ahead of our competitors.
notice they all have bundles available now? well none of them are available on the comercial scale we can offer. this is because new products are researched as soon as they are announced

from what i have seen arounf the web, gulftown is going to be a corker
judging my my experience with the 32nm i3 chips, there is going to be some headroom unlocked and cooler running chips

all i can do is speculate until the chips are released but i have a good idea of what to expect

It is a gaming rig primarily, I don't render or anything like that and work apps aren't slow as it is (re: not in the slightest bit slow). It is just an itch that won't go away :(.

I know if I upgrade now I will kick myself a year down the line when something else bigger and better comes out. The Q6600 I have has been a proper little trooper.

But that itch!

My house mate renders on a Q6600 though(at 3.6) but I allow her to hook her computer up to mine, speeds the rendering up for her very significantly. (Don't ask me how it is done, no idea about rendering or the various applications, the basic explanation I got was it was a de facto very small scale render farm :p).

Before this thread dies, will somebody PLEASE answer my original question? Its just out of curiosity now.:D

The 'box' that you see on websites is for illustration purposes only. If it says 'i975' then you will get an 'i975'.
