I'd forgotten how utterly awesome sci-fi can be.

Did you watch the 2 part pilot? And how can you say 'hope it picks up' 33 is one the most intense opening episodes ever.
I have only so far seen ep 1 to 3 of season 1. Watching ep 4 now and if this is as good as it gets I’ll be going no further.

Episode 1 intense? I've seen more intense episode's of neighbours ;)

aye just watched "the die is cast" episode of ds9, totally boggles the mind at how dumb scfi has gotten with bsg and sg1 abusing the mind.

Aaah DS9, as a kid I never liked it, not enough action, but as a grew up I started to watch it and it's my favorite in the whole franchise ;)

Elim Garak is my fave character, but Odo... aahh.. :D

I absolutely loved Firefly. Stupid FOX for killing it, "Sci-Fi doesn't sell" lol...

Red Dwarf was also amazing :D..

I didn't mention Red Dwarf because in my mind its always more of a comedy, but i suppose it was about 50:50 towards the end. Im a huge fan though, hence my username :D

Heh good one :D. After reading some of the posts in the thread I was thinking I might give BSG a go, but if that's the sort of drivel it descends into...no thanks.
It's worth watching if you have never seen the original. If you have, it will probably annoy you because they've cashed in on the name and the idea while making it completely different.

The lack of continuity bugs me. I get the impression that several people each have their own ideas as to what the overall story should be and each of those people writes some episodes. So you end up with a mixture of episodes from what are effectively different programs with the same characters. Things happen completely out of the blue for one episode only, contradicting what has happened in previous episodes and having no effect on what happens in future episodes. The aforementioned "Scar" is the worst example of that, but not the only one.

I was always a bit of a "Space: Above and Beyond" Fan but as they only made one season it seamed a waste. I have always loved B5 and will always will its the only reason i still have a VHS player as i have the entire collection on video.
It won't last long on tape, even if you never watch it. I'd advise you to transfer it to disc as soon as possible. It's a bit of fuss to get the best picture quality, but you can do it all with free software.

I've always loved my sci-fi ever since i watched the original Star Trek re-runs (i'm not THAT old!).
I can never get enough, Star Trek (any series), Stargate, 4400, etc, etc, but this last few weeks i've had a reminder of how high the bar was set.

I got my hands on the complete run of Babylon 5, omfg it rocks.

I've got a couple of weeks down time between jobs so i've been kicking the arse out of it and i'm already finishing the 3rd season. Just need a few more hours in the day and i'll be happy :D

I always loved 'Red Dwarf', purely for it comedy aspect.

Anyone who liked Firefly is almost certain to also love Cowboy Bebop. It's animé, but don't make the mistake of thinking it's got anything to do with stuff they show on Saturday mornings for adolescent boys: this is deep, adult, and poignant. It's not hard-fi, nor is it an epic like Bab5, but it's some of the best sci-fi around - my favourite is episode 11, which is a very clever and funny tribute to Alien!:D

A strange coincidence - I've just started watching it. I borrowed it more from curiosity than anything else. I haven't watched anime before. I was surprised by the quality of it. It is very good sci-fi.

B5 is just awesome, always been a trekky but then B5 came along :D

box set is £70 or so at the moment guys, which is a fantastic buy to anyone who has even the smallest interest in sci-fi

Firefly comes close to B5 but alas was stopped WAY to early :(

sounds interesting!

Thanks for the info , will give Cowboy Bebop a go.

cowboy bebop also has a movie out on dvd which is pretty good.

some episodes are meh but the majority are great. the style of art can take a little getting used too personally.

Hi there

I love all my Sci-Fi and liked all the StarTrek series but for me Voyager was probably my favourite.

I really liked the old BattleStar Galactica series, in fact got it on DVD, then it went a bit pair shaped with Galactica 1980 or whatever it was called but there was a few good episodes. The new Battle Star Galactica is very good but sometimes its a little slow/drawn out.

I really like Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, truly fantastic series!
Farscape too is excellent and Adromeda is worth a watch but not in the same league as the others.

Something else I really liked was Threshold, but what happened to that series it just seem to end and never continue?

Out of new stuff Heroes is amazing and even though its not Sci-Fi I love the 24 series. :)

Space, Above and Beyond was pretty good... while it lasted.

But the all time best series not to be finished has to be the Tripods. I used to absolutely love that as a kid, such a shame that they never did the last series.

It was canned near the end of the first season, it started at the same time as two other sci-fi type shows a couple of years ago, and was the least popular of the 3 (the others being Invasion and Surface). I liked all 3, but both Invasion and Surface were cancelled after their first seasons. :(

The remaining Threshold episodes were shown some time later on a Dutch channel.

American shows get cancelled way to easily; Firefly & Drive spring to mind as my faves, along with the above.

Anyone remember the BBC's mini-series, Invasion: Earth? That should be either repeated or even remade along with the cancelled 2nd series.

Dunno if it's been mentioned, but does anyone remember V? (1983-1985)

The 2 mini-series' were amazing, one of the best sci-fi shows I've seen. The following series was a bit weak, but still watchable just to see how the story pans out.

Some scary bits if you were only a nipper at the time. Like when Robin gave birth to that alien baby. Nightmares!! :D
