Identify this ancient mobo!

Is it possible the guy who built the system for him didn't have any 1GHz processors in stock so he put in a faster one and underclocked it? If that's so then all I need to do is get him some 133MHz SDRAM and he'll get a 33% speed boost without even overclocking anything!
There is a good chance the overclock will work as many of the AMD 1Ghz 100Mhz fsb processors were happy at 133Mhz. I had a couple of processors at the time I pushed up easily to this speed. Though you will probally need a new cooler.

Its a possibility thats actually a 1700+ Palomino, never heard of a 100MHz FSB flavour one, closest i can think of is the Morgan Duron core which that obviously is'nt. Take the heatsink off and have a look!

Well, if it is a Pally it'll obviously run at 133MHz if we put in 133MHz memory. I'm back in Leeds now and he's in London, so taking the heatsink off will have to wait till the next time I'm there - I don't trust him to do it! If Aida also identifies it as a Pally though, I'll send him a stick of 133MHz SD-RAM I've got lying around in one of my boxes to see whether it'll work. If it does, I'll encourage him to buy some 133MHz-rated memory to replace what he's got, and that'll definitely give him a nice speed boost right there. He shouldn't have any trouble picking one up from a computer fair or auction site.
