Idiots and merge in turn

You always get idiots that don't understand (ie. Mike apparently before today) or even get annoyed with people merging in turn correctly. You learn to deal with them and anticipate what they are going to do. There will be no speeding ticket and I'm not convinced this isn't just another troll thread looking for attention/a rise from people anyway.

Probably is a better way to handle it, but the amount of traffic going through that bit of road is just too great for what it was designed for.

They've been talking about a bypass for that area pretty much since I was born and it'll never happen.

It's not a high speed bit of road and the merge in bit is tiny, not a long bt of 2 lanes going into one. Majority of the time it's crawling speed so don't have to worry about having to brake or push on suddenly.

Going from right to left, you can see it's a DC, then you hit the roundabout, then it goes to one lane after a little bit. You get all the traffic from the ring road coming up to the roundabout from the bottom and in the summer with all the tourists it's mental busy.

The funny thing is when people already in the left lane don't want you passing so they straddle both lanes. Happened today to us, told the wife to just whizz past them so she did lol. Probably wound the idiots up but they are too dumb to understand they cause more problems doing that.

Ok, Idiot in left lane, I'm in the right lane, my rear windows are level with the front of said idiot and the cars behind are/have already catching/caught up with him and in the process of merging themselves.

You honestly don't see the issue with braking, here?

Then you didn't look ahead? as if the cars behind were already merging, You decided you wanted to be infront too late and should have fallen behind said idiot or made your move with more time.

Anyway you look at it, You and the idiot :o both got it wrong.

Get in lane, why should someone have to give way to you knowing full well early you could have got in lane, if you want to drive about like Vettle do it but dont come crying to the internet.

Have a play about with this before you get on the road

How about you read the Highway Code, and learn to drive?

EDIT: Actually no, don't. It makes it much easier for those who can drive to progress when people like you don't know the difference between 'merge in turn' and 'queue in a single lane'. :D

I bet they all smiled when the camera flashed.

Sounds to me like you're shifting the blame for YOUR speeding ticket to someone else. Maybe the guy knew who you were, everyone knows everyone on that island don't they ?

You will be surprised that I have never crashed or had a speeding ticket in 10 years of driving :D

Merge in turn, such a simple effective concept that is totally bastardised by people who know no better.

We have a permanent FILTER in turn and for the best part it works fine. 2 lanes, merge into 1, 1 car from each lane at a time.

You would think then, having such a commonly used filter in turn, that local folk when presented with road works requesting "Queue in both lanes. Filter in turn" when 1 of the 2 lanes is closed further ahead would be able to handle it.

Nope. ***** straddle the central line to prevent people filling the outside lane and merging appropriately further down the road. All for what? Because they did not pick the less congested lane and are now 'losing places' to those with an ounce of common sense.

The end result of this muppetry is that a single file line of traffic much longer than the roads/traffic lights/other road systems prior are designed to handle causes ridiculous grid lock miles back, much further than it should have to be if people just got a grip.

Merge in Turn means Merge in Turn.

This is something I don't understand. If he accelerates while you're overtaking, why do you have to accelerate too? Is it a matter of saving face to complete the overtake or something? That coming back in behind him after you've started the overtake is somehow pussying out? Just let them get on with it. At least he's going faster now, which means you don't have to overtake him now.

Indeed, the other person accelerates and closes the gap to the car in front, leaving a bigger gap behind him/her. Nice easy spot to pull in to then.

Mike I understand your pain though, there are a few of these in my area, all of which seem to cause people confusion on how to drive. Mostly by people who seem to think that they need to straddle the centre line to stop people using the outside lane. Idiots.

Would be great if people actually used it like that... or if it actually worked like that even... in reality you get muppets from boths methods who screw it up for everyone else because they don't want to wait 2 seconds.

Same when I'm walking to work, theres one road crossing where I could stand on the central island all day waiting for someone to let me cross when the traffic is slow moving into town, instead I have to walk out and force someone to stop to let me cross because no one wants to slow up (even more they are already doing like 5mph) for half a second........................

I'll tell you why, because that is how they Highway code tells us we should drive on the road. Would you question someone who exercised their right of way on a roundabout? No. So shut up and learn how to drive before you criticise others.

Thanks :)

I was not wrong, if the person in the left lane maintained their speed (in fact, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect them to begin slowing coming from dual to single carriageway) then I would have finished the manoeuvre safely and at the speed limit.

I honestly don't understand what you're trying to get at here, are you looking to boost your forud "cred" or simply trolling? Either way, you look like an idiot. How you can say someone already half-way in front of someone performing a perfectly safe overtake is doing something wrong when the person on the inside decides to speed up, is frankly beyond me.

I usually do not involve myself in these Hindsight Appreciation threads, but are you one of the regulars who will try and make themselves sound clever by pointing out where the OP was wrong, whether he was, it was justified or he already knew it already?

Even so, it's easy to sit here and analyse it on an internet forum, on the road we do not have the luxury of having a good think, discussing the pros and cons for each action accordingly. You are forced to make a split second decision, and I stand by mine :)

Again, Thanks :)

I had no idea a topic about another idiot road user would ever be turned around on me

Oh poor Mike, lets play the victim of the nasty horrible OcUK people.

In reality it was turned around on you because its yet another example of either your lies or your hypocricy - not sure which yet.

You did something that you chastised others for not 3 months ago - people have good memories, you know.

Then why run to the internet? You know for a fact how we are going to react. You love the reaction imo.

Last time I said someone looked like an idiot on here.. I got a suspension, Shame the moderating is far from consistent.

Drive safe ;)

You mean a year and three months ago?

That wouldn't be you lying and twisting the truth to make a point again, would it?

Perhaps you also missed early on in this thread when Fett first asked, that I have since been educated on the matter, and no longer hold this view.
