If next year's consoles do 4k/60..

Sure, some titles will target 60fps. Just like some titles this generation target 60fps, or offer it as an option. Maybe Microsoft will make their first party devs target 4k60...it's possible. But this isn't magically going to become the generation of 4k60 just because the hardware got better.

Just the same as the arrival of the Pro and X didn't herald the era of 1080p60.....

You realise the pro and the x weren't a whole new console generation right?

I don't think a 'whole new generation' is going to mean what it used to, now we're on much shorter hardware cycles. Most likely 'current' will mean titles supporting a rolling two-iteration range of hardware, so as not to burn people who have bought into the shorter cycle.

If you ignore the pro and x versions then it will be 7 years since the ps4 and Xbox one.

Considering the PlayStation came out 6 years before the PlayStation 2 the jump was very significant.

Like Zelda yea that is me i grew out of 60hz it not set in stone you miss anything Zelda will be remastered later master race can still play Zelda. But be honest the Switch has a joke of a screen 60hz ips? Have you actually ever tried say 120hz strobed or 240 native? How are you supposed to then accept the experience it can be the best game in history but what use is in when half the pixels transistion into blur or you feel sick?

Unless they had a 60hz 6 inch Oled revision it will stay that way and anyways compared to OOT it looks silly with shield surfing and cheesy flying.

Not many posts are as pathetic as this. Impressive for what I assume is a grown man.

The irony because had you broken down what you disliked i could have addressed that but you chose to just say nothing but insult me. And you were saying what about grown men again? ;)

Oh ok. Well my point is nothing you've said would come from someone who actually cares about gaming beyond performance.

You compared to OOT. What framerate was that at?

As for the shield surfing and silly flying comment.. Hmm righto.

The GPU market is a joke with regards to current prices. Nvidia/AMD will need to cut the prices as they look even more silly now, considering MS is offering a 12TF/8 Core console for around 499/599.

Looking at the specs of the Series X, it'll be an absolute steal at 499, even 599 GBP is decent value considering the tech involved.

Quite funny how you used to post in a Stadia thread saying consoles were doomed and here you are praising the value of a series x.

It's interesting if you read the posts from last year, prior to the necro and 12tflop info. Everyone was pretty defensive of the pc master race but now the specs sound good people are changing their tone.

Aye, and i stand by that. Long term consoles will (eventually) become obsolete. Not today, but long term their days are numbered.

The specs are nice for a console. Doesn't mean to say i'll go out and buy one.

If they can generate as much hype as they have right now then I think they have quite a long future ahead. If anything, they will make pcs more redundant when it comes to gaming and media.

A console of the next gen power could happily offer keyboard and mouse support and throw in a browser functionality if MS wanted.

No doubt next nvidia drop will be pushing 20tflops or something but if people are getting crazy value elsewhere then I think they will struggle to excite people.

Even digital foundry seem to be getting a semi-on and they are critical of everything.

Marketing is getting to you already. You're easy!

By the way, Phil Spencer will say anything to sell an Xbox.

Also, not every game will run at 60fps+. Very few customers will have VRR TV's. Therefore, a frame rate cap will still need to be put in place.

I stand by my comment.
Well let's see if its 30fps again like your prediction.

It's also amusing how active you were in the Google Stadia thread until it turned out to be a flop and you went silent and moved on.

I doubt you'd ever accept being wrong regardless.

Maybe it just me

But to me a Gaming PC and a Gaming console are two very different things..

A big part of buying a game for me is playing around with all the settings, benchmarks, Drivers, being able to choose if I want to play it at low setting 120fps, med setting 80fps, high settings 60fps, ultra settings 40fps
The feeling of paying £50 for a console game and knowing it could look better with higher settings on a PC ;)
Playing FPS with mouse & keyboard

Consoles are great for people that like the way they can just simply click the play icon and everything is done for them

This is where I'm different. Maybe it's my age or something but I get a pc game, spend 5 mins finding best quality settings and then pray I never have to touch that crap again. Benchmarks and drivers must be a hobbyist kinda thing because they are a nause to me.

As for console games, I bought a ps4 Pro last year and what I paid for games was:

Resi 2 - £13
Horizon zero dawn - £15
God of war £15
Spiderman £13
Crash racing - £22
Tekken 7 - £7.99
Dragon ball fighter z - £7.99

And then a bunch of other games that came free with my ps Plus sub that cost £25 for 12 months.

The landscape has changed a bit since SNES days and £65 Street fighter 2.

I'd never ditch my pc because my dota 2 addiction is too strong but for most other things, like a full Hdr and surround sound experience, my consoles win.

He is wrong a lot of the time. That’s why he disappears for long periods of time. Careful though, if you corner him, he will start becoming a child and throwing silly insults at you. Watch, he will likely prove me right by replying to this post with a childish insult or disappearing for a while :p

He speaks with so much confidence, like he really knows what he is talking about. Was so much fun seeing him embarrass himself in the Stadia thread and then disappear :D
Yeah he speaks with such conviction it just opens him up to look silly.

He says he certainly won't buy a next gen console but if they turned out to be a game changer then I doubt he would stay that stubborn for long.

I don't have anything against consoles, in fact i have a few digital Xbox 360 games i haven't touch in years.

What i don't like is the marketing BS everyone seems to lap up at the start of a new console generation.

When you look at the features of these new systems, there is absolutely nothing there that wasn't already available on PC.

Then you have a lack of a open digital market, it's closed nature, it's reliance on retail (i hate physical media and value space), no free online gaming, pay-walled features, ***** network speeds (PSN is held together with duct tape and glue), lack of original IP, a non existent strategy genre, almost no mod support, it's focus on AAA and sequels, lack of I/O options, adverts embedded within the interface, only 1 of the 3 support digital refunds, etc.

Then there is your digital library licensing, i bought Outrun Online for the Xbox 360 when i had the console over a decade ago. The game got removed, i can't even play or get access to it anymore.

Contrast that with Outrun Coast 2 Coast, which i bought on Steam, it also got removed, but it remains in my library available to download whenever i want (and play at 4K).

Consoles are nothing more than a ***** PC wannabe, i found that out the hard way when i bought a PS4 (and returned it shortly afterwards). They are more or less a PC, but they do everything worse than a PC.

As you see above it's not just about graphics, but everything else the PC platform offers and in that regard consoles aren't even close to matching it outside the graphic realm.

What about the marketing BS you lapped up for stadia before it became abundantly clear it was a flop and you abandoned the thread ? Get a grip dude. You are becoming a bit lame.

And you seem to have a lot of supposed knowledge about psn. When you haven't got any experience of using it? Because that would require having a console right?

Your whole post is tragic

You sound butt hurt, is that the best you can come up with?

There isn't a single ambiguity in my post above as to why i should choose a console over my PC, based on my experience with both.

Your response is telling.

Anyway, i've just wiped my arse with you.

Good night.

Haha all you need to do is read your posts in Stadia thread and it puts all your other waffle into perspective.

You have some kinda personal vendetta against consoles, like it offends you if people praise them.

Your post is prattling on about your experiences with an xbox 360 10 years ago. How is that relevant to current/future gen consoles? I could start talking about how much of a mess Steam was when it launched but I wouldnt because its improved.

You mention its reliance on retail? erm... all consoles have digital stores and the ability to expand your hard drive storage.

"As you see above it's not just about graphics, but everything else the PC platform offers and in that regard consoles aren't even close to matching it outside the graphic realm."

Going on about PCs compared to consoles as if they are targeting the same market. It's absolutely obvious they are two different products. Most of us own a PC and a couple of consoles. Dont get "butt hurt" if people are able to enjoy a number of platforms.

I don't think many people have said pc gaming is dead. There is no chance of that.

Think the concensus is just if a console turns out to be as powerful as they are claiming then the pc market will need a shakeup because it becomes difficult to justify £1000 gpus.

I personally dont expect it to match a 2k pc because consoles never have. I do think it's going to be a pretty significant jump and it's going to hopefully change perspectives a little bit.

1400 quid gpus are quite silly when you consider you can still enjoy a game on something less than a quarter of the price. My Gtx 1080 is probably worth about 240 quid or something but it still manages to give me a good experience at 1440p on games like AC:O and Metro etc.

If you stop to enjoy a game instead of flap about a benchmark score you might find you appreciate gaming more.

It would have been 2013 looking back at some of my old photos not going to lie :p.

I was thinking the 780’s were released earlier, long time ago now though. Did have cards prior but no where near as powerful. Certainly not 4k worthy anyway. Asus released the 321 back in 2013.

4k was very expensive back in the day yes.

4k is still expensive. How much does it cost to do 4k 60fps on the current top quality games?
